Todd Gonzalez- Leagues first and only A+ hitter. Amazing guy and that 882 career OPS is just insane. Hands down one of the best I've ever seen anywhere in 130 seasons of SimD.

I think Callahan needs more love. 6 world series rings, a MVP (meaning he was the best in the league at one point in his career), + many gold gloves

Really? I'm interested in your reasons to vote for Callahan ( who I considered strongly) and not to vote for Bostick who has more all-star games and starts, more hr's, rbi's, better BA, OBP and OPS than Callahan?

Granted Callahan was great defensively and put up very good numbers but for a guy 700 hits away from 3k, I personally woud like to see 1500 runs or more pop or better OPS to go along with the 288 career average. His run total puts him at 14th career

The rings are nice and all but I personally don't put any weight in those when considering HOF votes. There are enough things out of a players control without factoring that in.

For me, he is a notch below Woods who got my vote but not many others it seems.

I would love to be talked into Bedgood though, someone lobby him that voted for him!

((no I am not trying to lobby for votes, just trying to understand the reasoning so please don't let me bully anyone into changing votes))

Gonzalez
Easley
Woods

Bedgood

Easley's career was short but he was absolutely dominant when he played. He averaged 33.5 HRs per season for the 10 full seasons that he played, including 47 in 1961 which is the single season record. Out of his 344 HRs, it felt like he hit 340 of them against my Dodgers.

Woods' career numbers would put him near the middle of the players who are currently in the HOF.

Although Bostick's numbers are less impressive than Woods overall, his awards including Rookie of the Year, MVP, and 7 All-star starts are enough to make him worthy of the HOF.

Bedgood is a Cy Young winner, and ranks in the top 5 of three different categories, including 5th all-time in strike outs. His career numbers are fantastic, aside from his WHIP which is higher than any current HOFer. But 1.28 WHIP isn't bad at all, and I don't tihnk it outweighs his accomplishments.

To be honest, I had the hardest time convincing myself to vote Woods in - him being an Oakland A certainly influenced me in the end.

Regarding my reasoning on Callahan:

First off, about world series rings. I don't think they should be factored as a primary reason to vote a guy in, but in Callahan's case, I think it should be considered as a contributing factor when looking at his case. He was the starter on 8 World Series teams - to get to the World Series, you usually want to have the best player you can reasonably have at every position - Callahan was this guy @ 2B, a rather premium position. And he scored 81 runs in 111 playoff games (458 PA) - yeah not every player gets to play in the playoffs, but if stats are considered those should be too.

(2) His defense is superlative. I would consider a player in the +5 to +15 a damn good fielder...this guy had a ridiculous +29 one year....in his career, per 162 games he was +22 at 2B. 7 gold gloves at a cursory glance looks to be the most amongst all the players listed this year (might be something nice to include in the future), and it needs to factor in his case quite substantially in my mind, especially considering his at least above average hitting.

(3) Frankly, I favor OBP% over AVG% slightly. The .288 itself is not that bad at all, just out of the top 25 all time, and the .363 OBP is 3rd best of the bunch(Bostick was at .362) listed above, and also higher than anyone in the hall of fame right now. Contributing to it is that he is #8 all-time in walks.

(4) His numbers might fall short in the main categories, but with the low health and what looks like lower position in the batting order earlier in his career, yes the stats are going to suffer a little. However, I read an interesting point a couple years ago in an article about Jim Rice's case for the HOF. Although Rice's career numbers didn't add up to an overly impressive total, he was at one point in his career the best player in the league; he won the MVP that season.

Looking at Callahan's spectacular '66 season:

- The .368 average is #1 all time in a single season - second is not even close, at .354
- OBP is also #1 all-time at a ridiculous .438
- Gold Glove +21
- MVP
- Seattle wins the World Series

In that season, he was the best player in the league. And he had other good seasons around it, so it wasn't a random fluke. This is the strongest reason I feel he should be in the hall of fame - comparable career averages and one incredible season. I know it was only 480 PA, but if the league records show that the AVG qualifies as the best of all-time, and he got the MVP, it's good enough reason for me.

Ultimately I think his overall resume should make him a lock for the HOF. The others, like Woods or Bostick, may compare to other HOFs in some stats, but so does Callahan. And sure had Woods had consistent power numbers(1000 more ABs) and Bostick had a MVP, but Callahan's MVP was record-breaking - 110 runs in a 115 games - it boggles my mind.

Ifhome run numbers and hits are used in other players' favor, Callahan's overall stats should also be considered. It's a crime he isn't getting more votes.

Well GreenandGold, you convinced me on Callahan. I have voted for him in the past but due to the lack of interest on his behalf I started voting for others and ended up leaving him off my ballot the past couple of years. It was his defensive prowess that originally had caught my eye, and after reading your post I officially hang my head in shame on not voting for him this year. Hopefully both he and Bedgood will make it in next year because I feel they both deserve it...Dawson as well.

Stros: If you want to be convinced about Bedgood and aonemanarmy's post didn't do it for you, consider that when Bedgood retired he was ranked 2nd in strikeouts and was the all-time leader in shutouts. It wasn't his fault he was on a bad team which hurt his win totals and the faulty defense behind him didn't help his ERA....but his career and Dawson's are very similar and I think if one gets a vote then the other should as well.....hence why I voted for both this year.

I actually don't want to think how good Bedgood would've been had I traded him to a playoff contender. Pretty sure that would've been scary.

Agree I think Bedgood should make it as well....nothing too spectacular, but a consistent front-line starter in his prime.

Glad I was able to convince you Maul. Really feel like he's got a great case.
