It would be a nice touch if, in the "Game Notes" section of each box score, you could note if a team took a performance hit for being over salary or over/under the 40-player roster target.

I can see this being useful but really owners should be aware of their cap situation.

Technically there is no penalty for being over or under the 40 man roster but you will be assigned $500K in salary for each spot that you are under 40 which may take you over the $80M cap.
I can see this being useful but really owners should be aware of their cap situation.
