Should Matt Leinart leave the USC trojans so he can go to the NFL?

Note: He will make announcement on Friday at 5:30 on ESPNNEWS

I think Leinart can have great success in the NFL. I do think the Browns will end up trying to get him in the draft if he does.

I hope he stays but what else does he have left to prove?

No kidding. There's no chance he gets past San Francisco with the first pick.

I'd much rather see him stick around and become the greatest college football player in history, though.

unless SF does something stupid like trade down. Which is possible considering that they need alot of good players.

Well then it wouldn't be something stupid, would it?
ABDREW

it would still be stupid. If you have a chance to get a franchise QB you don't pass it up.

To be honest, they aren't in a good cap situation anyway, since they desperately need to hang on to Julian Peterson. Add his contract and the No. 1 pick in the draft to the mix, and they will have little room to negotiate with free agents. Trading the pick is probably the smartest thing they can do--if Matt Leinart stays at USC, it's the only thing they should do.

Well yeah, if you could project him as such. But maybe he's just Heath Shuler with better hair. The 49ers are so far from competing, and need so many players at so many positions, that a team in their position really should be thinking about drafting to quantity and hoping they uncover some later-round gems, rather than putting all their hopes on one quarterback who may not even be the best QB in the draft.

If Lienart stay and they are in cap trouble the best thing for them to do may be to trade down make some tough cuts and stink for one more year. This way they may be able to have their cake and eat it too.

They could draft the second-coming of Ronnie Lott, Charles Haley, Jerry Rice and Joe Montana, and they'd still stink next season.

The 49ers just may be stubborn enough to stick with Rattay because they have so many other positions to address. Even if Leinert leaves USC I could see SF going for a RB or OL/DL, since those positions are pretty deep this year.

But they do have Kevan Barlow and what's-his-name, Michael Hicks(?) at runningback, and given that those positions are deep, can sit on one of those guys until the 2nd round.

I definetly don't see SF taking a RB in the 1st round. Evevn though he wasn't great this season Barlow showed some great flashes of talent

good for him. I'm glad that he chose to come back and enjoy himself. You only get to do it once

Let's examine the options:

Stay in a college powerhouse, have a chance of repeating as Heisman, enshrine yourself in NCAA lore

or...

Go to the NFL, maybe get paid some money, but have a chance of being selected by a team that is years away from being a year away?

Seriously, this is not something you are going to see often, turning down millions for a chance to *gasp* enjoy yourself! Good to see.

Okay, I read the story now. Good decision!

He's going to really regret it if he suffers a bad injury next year.

maybe, maybe not.

1. What are the chances that a QB with a massive O-Line gets hurt? Slim but possible

2. See W. Mc Gahee, he DID get hurt and still got 1st round $
