Your list is wrong. Jim Brown is No. 1. Just like Don Hutson is the No. 1 receiver, ahead of Jerry Rice.

1. Barry Sanders/Jim Brown (I'll give you that its probably Jim Brown, better YPC but whatever, screw you, go Barry)
3. Walter Peyton
4. Gale Sayers
5. Emmitt Smith (I'll put him on the list, just to be nice)

And it is completely insane that Csonka made your list, that John Riggins is so high, that Emmitt Smith didn't make the cut, and that you have O.J. as an honorable mention.

How did Emmitt Smith not make the list? I'm not sticking up for him (I dislike him a lot) but he does have the most rushing yards ever.

Did not put anyone that is still active on my list. OJ is not on there because of moral reasons. Csonka because of what he did when with Miami. Mr. Smith will be in top five when he retires. Brown, Payton, Sanders all three deserve number one in my book. I am just a Barry fan. So he will always be first on my list.

Sorry about not mentioning Thurman Thomas

TD is another one I forgot. Did not put Martin for same reason I did not put Mr. Smith. Dickerson should have made honorable. So great list here as well. Part of the fun is talking about why each of us choose who we did. Loved Bo running over Boz on Monday night!

Honorable mention for Christian Okoye if for no better reason than his name is fun to say.

1. Jim Brown. If you ever saw him play, how could you vote for anyone else?
2. Walter Payton. Forget which one of his teammates said it, but they basically said "Sweetness wasn't a running back, he was a football player," intended as a high compliment. Gets nod over Sanders #2 because he was a better football player.
3. Barry Sanders.
4. O.J. Simpson. After Brown, perhaps the most amazing combination of power and speed I've seen in my lifetime.
5. Emmitt Thomas.
6. Franco Harris.
7. Curtis Martin.
8. Marcus Allen.
9. Eric Dickerson
10. Thurman Thomas
Honorable Mention: Ottis Anderson, over 10,000 yards playing for some miserable Cardinals teams.
Careers cut short by injury: Gale Sayers, Bo Jackson, to a lesser extent Earl Campbell

I think even though he doesn't have the rushing record anymore that Jim Brown is the best running back. These are my top six.
1. Red Grange
2. Jim Brown
3. Walter Payton
4. Barry Sanders
5. Gale Sayers
6. Emmit Smith

Rocky IV is the greatest Rocky film ever. Somehow Red Grange beat out the best back ever on your list, though.

I should hope Csonka made it for what he did in Miami, because it couldn't be for the 1300-odd rushing yards he piled up in three mediocre seasons with the Giants.
Csonka's stats: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/CsonLa00.htm
Csonka was considered an interesting personality in his day, but this is a guy who had just three 1,000-yard seasons, never led the league in rushing, and really had just four seasons as a great runner: 1970-73. Selecting him to an all-time RB list would be nearly as insane as if someone named Tommy John one of the greatest pitchers ever.
Riggins: Only once did he finish in the Top 5 in the NFL in rushing, he made just one Pro Bowl, and his career YPC is 3.9. He piled up yardage because he played a long time and did win a Super Bowl for the 'Skins, but he's not a Top 10 back, either.
Riggins' stats: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/RiggJo00.htm
Larry Brown? Are you just a big Redskins fan? (Yeah, and Curt Warner is the best running back in AFC history.)
Brown: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/BrowLa01.htm
Where's Eric Dickerson? Tony Dorsett? Granted, you aren't including active players, but Marshall Faulk and Emmitt Smith belong. And so does O.J., morals or no.

You have to love the nickname the Nigerian Nightmare as well. Jim Brown number one though.

1. Walter Payton - Might be the best football player of all time
2. Jim Brown - The most dominating back in NFL history
3. Barry Sanders - Simply Electric
4. O.J. Simpson - May he rot in hell, still awesome
5. Gale Sayers - Career may have been cut short, but it doesn't dim what he was
6. Emmitt Smith - Durable and great vision
7. Earl Campbell - Devastating
8. Marcus Allen - Great all around back
9. Thurman Thomas - See above
10. Marshall Faulk - Too bad he couldn't stay healthy, what might have been
Honrable Mention
Eric Dickerson - Too soft and selfish to make the list, but was a great breakaway threat.
Curtis Martin - Emmitt Smith Jr.
Franco Harris - great in his prime, but memories of his final few years tarnishes
and i'm sure I forgot a few.
Also Lvnwrth,
Emmitt Thomas was a DB for the Chiefs, if memory serves.

Damn, I forgot about him. I planned to put him around 7th or 8th. And I didn't include Watters just because he used to play for the Seahawks, he'll probably go in the Hall as an Eagle or 49er.

Marcus Allen is pretty overrated, as running backs go. His career numbers:
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/AlleMa00.htm
Two good seasons, one amazing season, and then a whole lot of mediocre to average years. Scored a lot of touchdowns, though.

If Ricky Watters goes into the NFL Hall of Fame then the Hall of Fame is broken.

I have to agree. I loved watching Running Watters with the Seahawks, but he is not an NFL Hall of Famer. To its credit, the NFL actually tries to be selective with its nominations.

I agree w/ most of the top ten picks with Sayers higher on my list than most others. Brown is #1 and Payton #2.
Some other fun picks out of the top ten.
1. Cookie Gilchrist (College:None on his football card)
2. Jim Nance (The Bus before the Bus. Look him up)
3. Chuck Foreman
