SF Giants

I've been getting in a lot of arguments with uneducated Giants fans and homers about how the Giants will do this year. The bottom line is I think they are going to suck because they are all old and on the decline. Their offense consists of Barry Bonds who may or may not be off the steroids, after that there is nothing. And their OF? Bonds, Grissom and Alou. Yeah, they're gonna get to a LOT of fly balls in that large OF... Yeah, Vizquel was good with the glove 3 or 4 years ago, but he is on the wrong side of 35 now and Matheny is extremely old too and can't hit for beans. I'll admit Schmidt is very good, but they don't have quality pitchers after him. I could go on, but I'm sure most of you know enough about the Giants.

So here's the question, how will the Giants do this season?

(note: they have 5 starters who are 35 or older and Matheny is 34)

See, but I have an excuse. Billy Beane is always right Billy Beane has brainwashed me with all his technical jargon and sabermetric talk. Billy Beane for Prez 2008 The Giants fans don't have a GM who has done that, they merely have a stupid one. Billy Beane is God I guess we'll just have to see how the season goes, won't we? In Beane we trust

Bonds will stil be amazing, but the upgrades of Alou/Benitez are countered by the downgrade with Matheny. A 90 win no playoff team once more unless they get lucky.

I don't really see Alou being much of an upgrade. He had a career year last year, he's hit 30 HRs just 3 times in his career and it was obvious that he was helped by the friendly confines of Wrigley last when his home/road splits were 29/10 with nearly identical ABs. (he had 1 more home AB than away AB)

Did anyone here the Alou/Pippen reference on ESPN? basically Bonds was compared to Jordan which is not that farfetched (though Bonds has yet to win the big one..) but someone refered to Alou as Jordans "Pippen". Does anyone else that that is completely rediculous?

It makes perfect sense, because Bonds and Alou are going to each take 25 shots a night, play stellar defense and elevate their team's level of play.

Jeff Kent was Bonds's "Pippen" and they didn't get along.

Giants have upgraded from last season in left, closer, shortstop, and catcher (Pierzynski could hit but the Giants pitchers just HATED him cause he was so lousy defensively). They have the best SP in the division (Schmidt) the best hitter in the league (with all apologies to Mr. Pujols). Yes they're old and if you were talking about whether they can win for several years to come you'd be right they're in serious trouble but they're built to win this season and should easily win the division.

Pierzynski was mediocre defensively, not horrible. The Giants took a big downgrade at catcher, Matheny is a great defender but a completely worthless hitter who shouldn't be starting anywhere, much less a contender. Pierzynski was a jerk but that didn't really affect his play or others' play. The Giants now have the luxury of two automatic outs at the bottom of the lineup.

You realize Alou is on the juice, however his shots will not be the same juice as Barry. Alou uses the all natural performance enhancer--urine.

Easily? I doubt it. If Bonds is out until mid seasons or beyond they are in deep shit. All of those teams are relatively equal as far as talent goes. The Giants have one starting pitcher, the best hitter in the league (although he could be out for the entire season) a decent closer (who sucks in big games) and a decent but ancient outfield. There isn't much offensive pop there with Bonds out and the only consistency in that rotation is that you can count on a quality start from Jason Schmidt every 5th day. Other than that its an adventure. Granted all of those teams in that division are pretty equal so pretty much anyone has a chance. I'll post my predictions when I get home from school later and have a chance to look over rosters.

Are the Giants going anywhere without Bonds now? Not a chance.

The Giants will not win the West they might not even PLACE. The hated Blue boys look better to me... Anyway the Giants have until the All-Star game until "urine hands" demands they fire Mike Krukow because he calls a good game and might have been critical of somebody on the team some time during a broadcast. I hope that most Giant fans wake up and open their eyes to the fact that this team is in a lot of trouble over this season and for about the next 10 years.

Oh where have you gone Jonny Lemaster??
