I started to watch a Dodger game the other night. I see that they've taken the players names off their uniforms, which is unfortunate as I don't recognize hardly anyone on the team anymore, and instead of the wonderful pictures of Dodger greats and headlines along the outfield wall, it's now plastered with ads, including an electronic ad board. I'm sure later this year we'll hear about how the stadium is going to be renamed to "Hanes Underware Park" or something.April 15, 2005 at 08:04PM View BBCode

I'm going to start a franchise that just has a solid colored jersey. No logo, no team name, just....April 15, 2005 at 08:09PM View BBCode
You'll save on stitching costs. And you'll get a lot of free advertisement from anyone who wears that color. But it should be a memorable color, not like brown or red or something. How about hot pink? Jersey sales to 11 year old girls will be through the roof.April 15, 2005 at 08:15PM View BBCode
The outfield sucks, but I'm not going to cry about it. I really could care less about advertising if the Dodgers keep playing like they have beenApril 15, 2005 at 08:22PM View BBCode

And how can you say you don't recognize the players? There are some legends on this team, everyone has heard of them--Buddy Carlyle, DJ Houlton, Jason Repko, Steve Schmoll, Norihiro Nakamura, Antonio Perez... If carrying 6 rookies means the best record in the league, then I'm fine with that. Even if all those guys except Perez are DL replacements (I'm guessing the Dodgers' 6 DL players leads the league...)

As far as taking the name off the jersey, I wish more franchises would do this for their home jerseys. They look sleeker and more classic, especially for a team with the history of the Dodgers.

Not really. First of all, the Dodgers didn't wear "Brooklyn" uniforms in 1947 - home and road both said Dodgers. Even when they did they certainly didn't wear Brooklyn at home. Second, I don't understand why the Dodgers insist on wearing white buttons. It makes the uniform look like a friggin' T-shirt. Uniforms should have clearly visible buttons, and some piping down the front to set them off rarely hurts. Unfortunately, a lot of teams favor the "invisible button" lookApril 16, 2005 at 05:06PM View BBCode
I think the last time that the Dodgers wore "Brooklyn" home jerseys was the mid-30s. The problem was that if they kept the Dodgers jerseys, the only difference would be the hat and color of the numberApril 16, 2005 at 05:38PM View BBCode
I understand why they did it, I just think that if you're going to go throwback you should do it properly. And besides, I happen to think that their uniform they wear now is nicer than the throwback one. Old uniforms aren't always better.April 16, 2005 at 06:06PM View BBCode

The worst uniform in baseball (all classifications) that I have seen belongs to the Fresno Grizzlies. The road uniform is a dull gold color with brighter gold numbers. Regrettably, I can't find an image on google.April 18, 2005 at 11:32PM View formatted
