Chris Webber

Is it just me or has he been playing HORRIBLE since going to Philly. Last night against the Nets for example he went through a stretch where he missed 8 field goal attempts in a row. He refuses to go inside and has become a 6'10" mid range jump shooter, except he doesn't seem to be knocking them down. He only started knocking down his shots yesterday at the end of the 4th quarter when his team was down by 18. Every time I see the Sixers play (which isn't that often) he struggles. He seems to always be like 3-11 from the field and he is missing free throws, not playing defense, and lagging up and down the court. I realize that the knee injuries have made him slower and less explosive than he has been in the past but he was a 20-10-5 guy when the Sixers got him earlier this season but he has done nothing as of late.

On the other hand Allen Iverson has been fantastic. He has had 56 consecutive 20+ point games. He's leading the league in scoring with over 30 ppg and he is also 5th in assists averaging 8 a game. We all know that he is capable of putting a team on his back and taking them deep into the playoffs (he basically single handedly took the Sixers to the finals a few years ago) but at some point he needs to get some kind of help from his team, Webber in particular. At 6' 165 lbs he can't continue to take the pounding and be the only scoring threat every night. Not only that but he plays basically every minute of every game. He played 53 minutes in the Sixer's overtime win last week meaning that he didn't sit at all that game. He didn't sit down last night until the game was out of reach for good deep into the fourth quarter. He's also been playing with sprained fingers in both hands. At some point he is going to just collapse and break down unless he gets some support from Webber & Co. and can be able to take a breather without the team going down the tubes.

The problems Webber have experienced in Philadelphia can be summed up in two words: Jim O'Brien. His system is baffelling. To begin with, the offense should run Iverson to Webber and then back outside but O'Brien doesn't like his big men to dribble at all, he hasn't made any moves to run plays through Webber and his substitution patters are bizarre at best.

Chris Webber just has a lazy style of basketball, the ball comes to him and he proceeds to slowly, slowly work his way towards the basket, killing the clock (and momentum) in the process, this just isn't going to work with Iverson...
