Eagles fan that you are, I don't know what business you have chiming in here.
(As a Steelers fan you seem to think everybody loves them. There are a bunch of reasons to hate the Steelers -- they're really not a very likable team. Actually, the '05 squad was infinitely more likable than the '08 squad, thanks to Bettis and the underdog-type run that they made. The refs, at least, were quick to buy in.)

I don't think I've ever said that everyone loves the Steelers. Most good teams will of course have reasons to hate them. Really its similar to the 49ers. Are there reasons to hate them-sure but if they were a team like the Bengals-who probably have more legitimate reasons to hate them but who are irrelevant in the grand scheme of things-they wouldn't be on the list. Teams on a list like this are almost always going to be successful ones because the Bengals of the world don't matter.

I agree with Bryan. There are successful teams that are just wall-to-wall douchebags like the Cowgirls and the Patsies that create a feeling of hatred from coast to coast. The Steelers (and the 80's/90's Niners) do not fall into that category. I can see why someone would hate them, I guess, but the reasons pretty much boil down to "they're good."

Ben Roethlisberger. Joey Porter on the '05 team. If Philip Rivers and Shawne Merriman are reason enough to hate the Chargers, who haven't won censored , I'll throw those two in as my reason.And, you know, that illegal block called against Hasselbeck.

1) popular, so a lot of their fans end up coming to your home games and such.
2) terrible towels suck. (really, great in theory, but you get hit in the face with them a few times, and next thing you know you are getting kicked out of the game for disorderly conduct... um...yup.)

Again, I'll claim that its because they win (and against your team) that you care about them. I don't think that Ben has really done anything hatable. Maybe annoucing over the loudspeaker that "we're going to take the ball and drive down and win the game"?
The point though is that Pittsburgh is on the list for winning while teams that deserve to be there like the Bengals are too irrelevant to matter.

Normally I'd laugh at that (sorry Tyler and Benne). But my favorite team has become a bit of a laughingstock and deserving of ridicule, themselves...Unbridled hatred is nothing compared to what you feel when a coach from a hated team becomes your favorite team's head coach...and proceeds to screw things up!

(And, yeah, I kind of liked it. Hasselbeck was still young at that point, and it was nice to see him assert himself, even if it ended badly.)

When people show that clip, it's kind of to make fun of him. The whole "if you're going to be cocky with your mouth, you have to back it up with your actions" thing. Personally, I find all of that guarantee censored to be tiresome. Joe Namath? Eat a dick.

Actually, I would personally hate him more, because it would mean his cocky douchebaggery wasn't properly punished. As it stands, the Seahawks losing that game was the appropriate lesson for Hasselbeck. Also, male-pattern baldness.

Meh, whatever -- it wasn't some arrogant, self-serving proclamation like Namath's guarantee. Hasselbeck was excited and caught up in the moment. I don't condone it, but I won't condemn it, either.
