It's not a rule, so there are no exceptions. There are just "things." Fans all over will blame umpires and refs for specific games. Super Bowl XL. The Conference finals when Shaq got all the calls over the Kings. Denkinger. Jeffrey Maier. The game where Jerome Bettis called tails but retard Phil Luckett thought it was heads. yes, some folks blame the officials when their teams don't play well enough to win. these folks are also known as SORE LOSERS.

but i do apologize. all this, i suppose, is about some particular bad calls, and perhaps about the desire to get more calls right in important games.

1) Umpires CAN reverse calls. See A-Rod vs. Bronson Arroyo, Game six of the 2004 ALCS (the glove-slap incident).*
2) Tim McClelland, 1-game playoff, 2007, Rockies vs. Padres. I'd be seen in a Rox jersey a million years before a Padres tee, but, Matt Holliday's hand never touched the plate. And now the Padres suck.
* - for those of you who don't wish to do this, and don't know what I'm talking about, here's the cliffsnotes version: A-Rod was running to 1st, Red Sox pitcher Bronson Arroyo had the ball in his glove, A-rod slapped it away in a very feminine way, he was initially called safe. BoSox manager Terry Francona comes out of the dugout and gets right in the 1st base ump's face, saying something to the likeness of "THAT MOTHER(beep)ING (beep)SUCKING SON OF A (beep) SLAPPED THE (beep)ING BALL OUT OF HIS GLOVE, A (beep)ING BLIND MAN COULD SEE THAT'S CLEARLY BULL(beep)! TALK TO THE OTHER (beep)ING UMPS ABOUT THAT (beep) CALL RIGHT NOW OR I'LL GO BEAT THE (beep) OUT OF THAT (beep)ING CHEATER MY (beep) SELF!!!". The play was eventually overturned. Derek Jeter, who had initially scored on the play, had to return to first, and A-Roid was called out on the play.

of course they can reverse them, i never said they couldn't. i just said an umpire hardly ever reverses his own call once he makes it. i mean, it just hardly ever happens (they do of course call outs too soon sometime, then reverse themselves when the ball comes out, this is not the same thing, obviously). you call it, and that's it, usually. (sometime an umpire who could see the play better will overrule the call, of course, which is a seperate issue. an umpire can even change his call if the manager comes out and convinces him to. this of course seldom happens, because the umpire in question would be...what's the word? a complete idiot to do this. but it has been done.)
