(sorry, i can't resist).

no, brad lidge trying to throw that flat-assed slider of his past Albert Puljos was the stupidest thing in the history of sports. without question.

Well, if they eliminated that it would make hockey the stupidest thing in sports.

how is it any stupider than allowing managers to stand on the sidelines/bench screaming at umpires like every other sport does? if anything, it's more entertaining in baseball than other sports because they are on the field.

The stupidest thing in sports is Deke's problem with the NBA. No, it's Deke talking about his problem with the NBA.

Because nothing beats a balding guy dressed in the same pajamas as his subordinates, throwing his hat on the ground with one hand and holding a SlimFast in the other.

(Baseball does everything differently. Like manager apparel. And generally no instant replay.)

You know who else did things "a little differently"? Hitler.

baseball does manager apparel differently because it is (so far as i can immediately recall) the only sport that allows the coaches and managers on the field of play. i'm not sure why that's an argument against replay.

It was funny when Earl Weaver did it, because he was 4'8".

Allowing childish behavior from a "manager" is counter intuitive. You won't draw me into an argument. Allowing unsportsmanlike conduct during a game is stupid, pure and simple.

(I'm not sorry, but I still can't resist.)

Allowing Billy Kilmer to start instead of Sonny Jurgenson is the single stupidest coaching decision of all time.

i'm not sure what argument it is you think i'd be drawing you into. all sports have penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct, so none "allow" it. all sports have penalties for such antics which tend not to be that severe, so all tacitly "allow" it. baseball is no different than any other sport in this area, other than their managers are allowed on the field and others sporting managers are not.

i believe it goes back to player/managers, which used to be very common. some of the managers who didn't play wore street clothes (connie mack, etc).

((also, a uniform would have looked really strange on an animatronic mummy.))

(((and NFL coaching wear is more dumb than baseball. much, much more. the guys used to look really nice in their suits. now they look incredibly stupid with that crap on.))

instant replay is awesome though. did you watch the replay on the Galaraga thing. when the umpire called safe, the expression on his face was absolutely priceless. no anger, it was just like, "what the hell?"

(perfect game? who cares? roy halladay pitched a perfect game because he is awesome, and the defense played well of course. mark burhle is kind of awesome because he pitched a perfect game, sane folks recognize he is a turd. burhle got his name in the little book. galaraga got a Corvette. you have to love a company town like Detroit.)

Classic Tim.

(There have been a few pitchers suckier than Mark Buehrle who have pitched a perfect game. Like Dallas Braden.)

The next thing Galarraga will get is some Chevy endorsements for some spanish speaking countries.

No he's not. He's not even close. Do you know how many insignificant turds have accidentally thrown no-hitters? Do you even remember Bud Smith? Christ.

Sandy Koufax stopped off on his way to Temple one time (1965), and threw a no-hitter in an adult league game. actual game time, 45 minutes. true story. struck out the side nine times.

The Nomo and Van Poppel no-hitters rank toward the bottom of the list for me, and that's just the ones I've seen.
