Best draft ever? Based on what exactly?

It was certainly one of the strongest rookie classes recently and I'll tell you why.

Ben Roethlisberger
Eli Manning
Kevin Jones
Julius Jones
Stephen Jackson
Roy Williams
Larry Fitzgerald
Michael Clayton
Reggie Williams
Lee Evans
Sean Taylor
Jonathan Vilma
Chris Gamble

so on and so forth....

I'd say there are 5 or more future hall of famers on that list.

Are we forgetting the trult GREAT draft of all time? The 1983 NFL Draft, with such players as:

John Elway (!!!)
Eric Dickerson (!!!!)
Jim Kelly (!!!)
Dan Marino (28th overall? !!!!!!!)

And that was just the first round! As I remember, I think a couple of incredible players were taken in the later rounds (Bears linebackers? I need to find some reference to help me out here)

As for this year, I consider it this year to be a very RB heavy draft. Ronnie Brown, Cadillac, Benson, are some of the great talents in college ball. It's possible some of these guys fall to the late 1st round.

A brainstorm, could the Seahawks lets Shaun Alexander go in favor of trying to pick up one of the backs if they fall to the low first round? Hmm...

The Seahawks need to focus on defense, defense, defense. Their D-line was a joke this year and always gave the crappiest QBs enough time to read War and Peace. The linebackers are competent but old and the secondary always gives up that one big play. Can I say defense again?

ya the 1983 is the best draft, last years draft will be lucky to be as good someday.

The 1983 Draft is widely considered the best QB draft of all time. Todd Blackledge, Tony Eason and Ken O'Brien were also highly touted QBs. Darrell Green and Bruce Matthews were a couple future HOFers taken in the first round.

What the Browns need first is a coach and some front-office guys that actually want to try to build this team. It will be a long process, be patient kingjames.

There have been some impressive rookies but they are just that... rookies. Vilma looks like he will be crazy good but it is too soon to tell. The same goes for just about everyone on that list. And in a mostly unrelated note, I know Chris Gamble's cousin (you can take the poster out of Off topic but you can't take the off topic out of the poster).

Jesus, while I was sitting here trying to think of feasible draft plans for the Browns, I realized I couldn't! The Browns pretty much suck in every conceivable area I can think of.

I guess, first off, draft a good RB from the RB-rich draft. Then, if he's still around, Alex Smith.

Or, possibly Rolle in the first round, and then a QB in the second. Campell and Randell are both coming out, both really athletic QBs. A nice project in the second round to be developed while they have Jeff Garcia under contract.

The d-line was weak for the 'Hawks, but Wistrom was hurt, and so was Tubbs, but I think he just sucks. Their main problem on D is lack of depth/age/brittleness at LB and their defensive co-ordinator (firerayrhodes.com). Id prefer they tag and trade Alexander, get Brown/Benson/Williams and then get Ahmad Brooks or Derrick Johnson at LB.

Wouldn't "Crybaby" Alexander bitch and moan about being on the Seahawks while they have his heir-apparent waiting right behind him? Too much friction to deal with, IMO, for the Seahawks. Better to let Alexander walk, and draft Brown/Caddy/Benson.

And Johnson is a sure first rounder. No way the Seahawks get him in the second round.

I think Whisky meant trade Alexander for a pick so that they have 2 first rounders, one for a runningback and one for Derrick Johnson or Ahmad Brooks.

Johnson is an amazing player, his stock will probably go up in the combine because of his speed.

'Hawks will probably stick the franchise tag on Walter Jones again, but if I was GM, I would re-sign Alexander, give him what he wants. Then I would probably let Hasselbeck walk. Call me crazy, but I watched Seneca Wallace in preseason; he's got some good stuff, lots of potential, and he's more mobile than Hasselbeck. I think he's worth grooming as a starter. As for the draft, I would look for a sure-handed receiver and another DT aside Tubbs to stop the run.

I think we need to keep Alexander, too, but if you want Wallace in there at QB, we need to start running the option. I have little faith in his arm. He'd still be an upgrade over Hasselbeck.

Hasselbeck is a god in my house. Re-sign him immediately.

True, he'll be a project and Seattle may need to keep Dilfer around for insurance. But in the long run, Wallace will be a better option.

Yeah I meant to tag and trade Alexander so he wouldn't be here to cry, and we'd have 2 1st rounders, one for a RB and one for a LB.

I like Wallace. He was great in training camp and in pre-season, if that means anything. I think he could be a good backup in time, and occasional injury fill in if needed, but not a starter.

From what my sources have been telling me, Alexander is almost guarenteed to be tagged at this point. The tag for a RB would be about 6 mil compared to around 10 mil for Walter Jones again. This is subject to change though. I do not want SA on my team next year.
