How could it not? I was back east when the story about the filming came out. I said to my brother there, "He's done. Probably not until the end of the season, but he's done."

I did not see the firing happening with 4 games to go, but now with Urban Meyer steeping down form Florida and a Broncos interim coach who fulfills the Rooney Rule (interim coaches almost always get an interview), the stage is set for Tebow and Meyer to reunite.

What I won't say is that a move like this is the best move the team can make, but every piece for a move like this is in place.

And I still hold that contention. Kubiak called the offense. Shanahan brought in the personnel. The failures of Shanahan were personnel moves/draft choices.

you know who's fault it is that the texans are perennial 8-8 unerachievers? mike shanahan. because gary kubiak is a freaking genius.

So, what you are saying is:

Josh McDaniels orchestrated the worst trade in recent NFL history in order to bring Tebow to Denver so that the team would fire him and replace him with Tebow's former coach?

That makes sense. (sarcasm)

is that one really worse than the quinn deal?

Yes, yes it is. Tebow is a flex/option/gimmick/wildcat QB. His value is limited severely. They traded what, 3 draft picks for him? And they didn't have to. He would have been there in the 2nd, 3rd or possibly even the 4th round for them.

I think its unlikely that the Broncos will hire any names as a head coach. They're still paying Shanahan and McDaniel (unless they can prove cause-which is never a given until the case is over)
khazim

About that. My feelin is that if the Broncos aren't 100% certain they can win an outight cause push, they'll come to some sort of settlement with McDaniels.

As for bad trades, what bad trades are you thinking about? The Cutler trade? That was a great trade for the Broncos. Get rid of a Dooshbag/Jeff George 2.0 for a serviceable game manager QB and 2 1st round picks, which, in turn, got parlayed into more draft picks?

Yeah, REAL bad trade. Any QB who eats 9 sacks in a half can't be well liked.

I thought Tebow was grabbed a little high, but the picks that were used were picks acquired by trade. Heck two of the three picks that were used to move back into the 1st round were picks acquired during draft day from all the moving around they did.

Besides, Tebow does have a 118.8 QB rating. granted it's from 1 pass for 3 yards and a TD, but there it is.

Oh, also, 12 rushes for 28 total yards, 3 1st downs, and 3 TDs ain't bad, either considering how bad Denver's running game has been this year.

I know of other 1st round pick QBs who didn't play one down their first year (Carson Palmer).

a little high? are you next going to say that cam newton's dad was a little indiscreet?

it doesn't matter how the picks were acquired. draft picks aren't found money. what matters is how they were spent. and in this case, they were spent stupidly.

this gets overused a lot, but i could probably complete 1 pass for 3 yards.

very few successful teams (read: none whatsoever) spend a 1st round pick on a short yardage back.

I know of other 1st round pick QBs who didn't play one down their first year (Carson Palmer).

and?

Based upon the Twitter from Tim Tebow last night plus the fact that Urban Meyer doesn't strike me as a Nick Saban type makes me think Meyer is going to do what he says he's going to do.

Just for fun, let's review the thread:

BTW, Urban Meyer has just stepped down as Florida's head coach. Denver just happens to have a vacancy at head coach. coincidence? - Khazim

He said one of the main reasons was so he could spend more time with family. - bpearly69

That applies to me as well. 1) not taking this theory seriously, and I did not misread anything, and 2) not a product of the American public school system

Do you mind if we get back to our drivelous discussion about Gary Kubiak being a genious? It really was preferable to this nonsense about Meyer and Tebow.

Look Khaz, I like you. You are fun and quirky and bring a fresh perspective and some original thought to the sports talk forum. I apologize if you felt that I crossed a line with an earlier post and insulted you. That was not my intention. I was merely trying to argue against some of your ideas, not against you as a person.

I bolded the important part for emphasis

As far as Kubiak is concerned, think about how bad the Texans would be without him there calling his offense.

One could also make the argument that Shanahan's SB winning teams weren't full of personnel that he brought in. Most of them were Dan Reeves/Wade Philips era carryovers.

Terrell Davis, Rod Smith and Easy Ed McCafferty all arrived with Shanahan in 1995. Those three, along with Shanahan's playcalling (remember that he used to script the first fifteen or so plays of the game) helped change the core of Denver's offense, which ultimately helped the defense. If I remember correctly, that Denver offense was so explosive (from 1996 - 1998) that the defense often played with a lead and could afford to be in blitz mode.

he's coach of the entire team, not the offence. i would respectfully submit that there is not a whole lot of chance they'd be any worse with someone else and a great deal of chance that they'd be better. he's had ample opportunity to build a playoff team. he hasn't, despite having a vast array of weapons on hand. your undying support of his genius is at this point akin to an ostrich sticking it's head in the sand when confronted with a lion.

you can't be serious? one could make that argument, i suppose, but one would look like a complete ass in doing so. the three years before shanahan got there the team was 8-8, 9-7, 7-9. (that's 24-24, if you're counting) in shanny first three years the team went 8-8, 13-3, 12-4 (33-15, again, if you're counting, which i'd guess you probably aren't as it sort of destroys your point) and won the first of their back-to-back super bowls. crediting that to reeves and phillips (or gary kubiak) is so outrageous as to be assinine.
khazim

December 09, 2010 at 10:01PM View BBCode

And Shanahan's last three years in Denver (all without Kubiak, BTW) 24-24.
dirtdevil

December 09, 2010 at 10:40PM View BBCode

yes. that's why he got fired. but you can't logically assign the credit for shanahan's success to reeves, phillips and kubiak silmutaneously, you know. not that any part of your argument is in any way logical.

just out of curiousity, what's kubiak's record without shanahan? (it's 38-40. his offence has never been higher than 10th in scoring during that time. clear evidence of genius, no?)

i do have to wonder why offensive coordinator kubiak gets all the credit from you for shanahan's two titles yet offensive coordinator shanahan gets none of the credit for the super bowl appearances in 86 and 87 when reeves was coach. it doesn't seem to make much sense. oh wait, kubiak was the backup qb for that those years. that must have been what caused it, the backup qb calling plays.
