See Rogue, you're wrong. We don't despise our own players, we despise players who don't put out the effort. Taking off opening day to rest because Randy Johnson was on the mound is an example. You're the same type of soundbite person who insisted that Rich Kotite was a good coach in Philly until he went to the Jets and stunk there as well. (not that I'm an Eagles fan except in Shep's mind-just an example of the mindless thought process people go through about Philly).

Honestly Bart, I know what I've heard on TV. Just poking the lion in the cage. What I do know, is Philly fan has a reputation for being vocal and critical at sporting events, of the visiting club, as well as the home club. I think it's great all the flack the fans get, except it truly is misguided flack. Philly fans do what they do because they care about thier teams, and want to see them hustle and play hard. It's to bad there are so many pro athletes that are doing what they do strictly for the money. I guess it's no different than any other profession, just the athletes have people watching and criticizing them.

Just heard on the radio that the Indians are trying to trade for Abreau. Pronk and BA on the same team. I guess they need more veteran leadership.

since the national league has zero, i think every American League team should have two. houston when it comes over could have three. they are houston after all.

I heard that there might've been a trade for the Indians' Trevor Crowe and that there might be a connection to the possible Abreu deal, but then I heard that its possible neither will happen.

we should give two to the tiger for this year and three for next. then no one needs to watch cabrera, fielder or martinez attempt to play defence.
(seriously, have you seen the tiger infield? it makes me think of that line about the '89 or 90 mets- the way to beat them is to hit the ball on the ground and run until it stops rolling.)

Well lets clear it up then.
1. It was 1968. TV has been running this as a great indictment of Philadelphia since before I was born and I'm 42.
2. The "santa" that was booed was a dirty fan who had been drinking and may or may not have been drunk, that the team management pulled out of the stands at the last minute.
3. Just because someone is in a santa suit doesn't make them santa. You'll recall the drunk at the beginning of "Miracle on 34th St"-if you didn't boo him you don't love Christmas.
4. Philadelphians love Christmas
5. Ergo, it was the duty and responsibility of Philadelphia fans to boo that particular santa on that particular day.

Scott Rolen was a great player in Philly and a lousy miserable excuse for a human being. He consistently talked about how baseball didn't really matter to him, that it was just a job. It is indeed, shocking, that the fans resented this attitude as you say.

he was a pretty good guy in toronto. and to be honest, if i played baseball everyday for a decade or two, i imagine it would feel a lot like job for me, too. because that's what it would be. i understand why the fans wouldn't like that but, frankly, they're wrong.
