What are you crazy?

Actually I'm looking at some of the past ones and you're right. This is actually very similar to the Quinn deal 2 years ago. The Browns moved up 14 slots giving their second round pick and next year's first so a 1st and a 2nd for a 1st (14 slot improvement). I'd have expected it to be a little higher cost to move up to the number 5 slot but in reality its pretty close there.

OK, can I say that I nailed that one.

Seeing as he went to Maryland, I'm assuming that dude is related to Wee-Bey?

Its an Al Davis kind of thing there. He loves loves loves speed and Hayward Bay had the fastest 40 at the combine.

A horrible pick for Oakland of course.

what about option three, where players projected by pretty much everybody to be stars don't pan out. when manning/leaf and bledsoe/mirer were in the conversation as which qb to pick #1 in their respective draft years there were plenty of people making solid cases for leaf and mirer being better future pros. they weren't, but that doesn't make the chargers idiots for taking leaf when the colts grabbed manning.

The thing is, just because the talking heads were saying that Leaf was good doesnt necessarily mean the smart GMs and scouts thought he was good. they might play him up, they might say he is great, but thats because they want the other GMs to draft him, since they dont want him.

also:

Kyle Boller - 48 percent
Jim Druckenmiller - 54 percent
Ryan Leaf - 54 percent

Leaf also had a low number of starts, meaning that hts harder to spot weaknesses.

From 1996-2005, the worst quarterback drafted in the top two rounds who had 37 or more college starts and a completion rate above 60 percent was Eli Manning.

But maybe its "just dumb".

(How did Oakland have that 3 or 4 year window where they were good? People make fun of the Lions but at least they tend to pick guys that are highly-regarded by scouts. The Raiders just pick censored , year after year after year.)

Davis was too involved with his lawsuit against the NFL to run the football stuff as much.

Niners have to go Crabtree now don't they?

I think so, yes. I almost feel sorry for the guy.

But if SF doesn't take him, he probably slides to Washington.

So if Denver takes Orakpo I'll have the top 12 taken in the top 12. Can't complain about that too much

Crabtree? Really? I must be the only person left who thinks Alex Smith would have been fine if he didn't have a new OC every season.

The Raiders were that good during that window because they signed free agents that were better than advertised. As has been said, they draft stupidly every year, and if James Jett has kids, they will be drafted when they are old enough too. I am happy that your prediction for them at 7 was accurate. The fans will love it. Until the first game.

They had to either take Crabtree or trade down. He was so far above the other players available at that point that it would have been silly not to.

Moreno instead of Orakpo? Why Denver...why?

With the running backs still on the board and the pick they gained with the Chicago trade, why not take the pass rushing DE (and best available player) with that pick?

The real truth is that Josh McDaniels went to Denver to sabotage the team. Fail.

McDaniels is right out of the Bellichek tree-The Cleveland years

See Craig this is what I mean about QBs. He's the next best QB but about the 50th rated player on the boards and they draft him 17th.

Can we hit rewind on the DVR, and get Shanny & Cutler back...please?
FuriousGiorge

April 25, 2009 at 10:04PM View BBCode

Yes, that's a censored pick and a complete reach, but just because some censored team like Tampa Bay reaches for a bum like that doesn't mean that no one else should bother picking a QB in round 1.
barterer2002

I'm not saying that nobody should ever pick a QB, I'm saying that there is no way that QBs should go number one year after year after year. They get upgraded well above their talent level simply because of position. This is why there are so many QB busts.
