Past Ghana, I am firmly on the Argentine bandwagon.

(Is it OK if I wish for the whole peninsula to sink into the ocean? Because both of these teams are boring the shit out of me.)

You mean there is no "special relationship" shared between Brazil and Portugal, Tim (i.e. the U.S. and the U.K.)?

Ronaldo was invisible in the second half, which is always hard with his glossy ass forehead. (Seriously, vaseline?)

I thought Llorente really changed the game when he came in. Good sub there.

Yea, he did well. I thought they might try to bring on Navas or Silva and push Villa more central, but Llorente provided a real point to their attack, and Villa's continued efforts to cut inside eventually paid off.

Paraguay will probably annoy Spain for a while, too. They ought to win, certainly, but it probably won't be as resounding as it theoretically could be.

Well, that was mostly Portugal. They sat behind the ball and made Spain play pretty deliberately. If Spain had opened up more they probably would have been effed. Spell check is cool with effed. Alright.

Yeah, Spain can be loads and loads of fun in the right matchup.

All the teams I was rooting against are out. I don't know if I am happy about that or a little bummed.

(All the other national teams are allowed one Brazilian to make the competition more even. Germany has Cacau, the U.S. had one, Portugal has a couple, even one of the Japanese defenders this morning was born in Brazil. It's only fair.)

So does this mean we don't have to suffer any more of those Ronal-Doh! commercials?

Portugal sucked, true story, except for Coentrao and the keeper .

I had high expectations for that game but Spain still don't look dominating, referee was great though .

The chance of an All South American Final Four is still there, though I think Spain will beat Paraguay.

I have to say something about Robinho-Fabiano-Kaka-spectacular save by the keeper, because wow.

It's hard to imagine Brazil doing anything but win the World Cup. Their defense is just suffocating.

Granted, the Dutch haven't made it too hard on them, what with leaving 3/4ths of their team at the midfield circle when they're attacking -- especially bizarre given that they're down 1-nil. But every time a Dutch player gets free in Brazil's end, by the time he's corralled the ball and is looking for a teammate, he's had to pass into six or seven or eight blue shirts.

the feed isn't working for me. the guys on the radio seem to think the referees are going pretty light on the censored dutch.

They've been warned a couple times about diving, but yeah, it's been a disgrace.
