my team has always been the astros, but I always had a special affection for the O's. I loved Earl Weaver, and consider him the best what ever was.April 23, 2009 at 02:29AM View BBCode
the thing is that ever since McPhail took over, not only has the team been less frusterating to be a fan of, but theyve done a good job of marketing their team, you feel like the team is good... (even though they suck), so its not so bad anymore.April 23, 2009 at 02:37AM View BBCode
too many owners think their teams are the Cubs... their fans will come out to the park no matter what.April 23, 2009 at 03:29AM View BBCode

-I intentionally allow myself to be swayed by commercials, because theoretically it means that my personal interests should garner a greater amount of advertising money, thus it should be a higher quality product.

think about this, if all orioles fans were strongly swayed by advertisements (like, for example if the orioles stadium were named Gilette field, we all would rush out to the store and buy ourselves Gilette razors), and all yankees fans were not at all swayed, and this was known information, then the orioles stadium naming rights (and all other orioles related advertisements) would be a hot commodity, the orioles would have a significantly larger sum of money, and then maybe CC Sabathia and Mark Texiera would be playing for us this year.April 23, 2009 at 05:46PM View BBCode
For the record, you're welcome for Adam Eaton. Glad he's anywhere but here.April 23, 2009 at 06:10PM View BBCode
worst ERA of like...any pitcher with at least 50 starts in the past decade or something.April 23, 2009 at 06:26PM View BBCode
So basically, this thread is now four pages deep in making a point I can make in two words: They suck.April 23, 2009 at 06:49PM View BBCode
this is acceptable, if they want to someday be good. tampa bay and milwaukee, to name just two, got themselves some awesomes from the draft by sucking. the orioles can do the same thing, no?April 23, 2009 at 08:14PM View BBCode
Orioles already have a lot of good pieces, if they spent the money on improving 1B/DH, 3B, and the starting pitching staff (promote the guy they drafted last season, get a couple of mediocre starters, and maybe a stud pitcher), they could contend right now.April 23, 2009 at 08:15PM View BBCode
they are a stars and scrubs team, just like the rays in 07. then they added the pitchers and the shortstop and made the world series.April 23, 2009 at 08:19PM View BBCode

i always call the mariners by the wrong name happy. it isn't intentional.April 23, 2009 at 08:32PM View BBCode
oh, and you can drive there, and you can park close by. and the parking is not wildly expensive like it is for the nationals. and there are great places to go nearby. and you can take the commuter train from DC to the game if you want to, for cheaps.April 23, 2009 at 08:34PM View BBCode
and the orioles are going to get a better draft pick than stupid toronto. which isn't going to sniff anything resembling the playoffs.April 23, 2009 at 08:37PM View BBCode

the thing about the orioles is, it just isn't as bad as it looks from the outside. baltimore is a great baseball town really.
they have a beautiful ballpark. the folks that work there are really very nice, the seats are not expensive, and they're readily available. the concessions are great, reasonably priced, and to top that off, the management doesn't mind what you bring in with you to eat or drink, if it is not breakable (you can't bring in beer, of course). but little coolers you can carry that fit under the seat, you can bring in soda, food, what have you. nobody takes a hard line on that like they do over in DC.
and you can go out to the little areas behind the seats and smoke, freaking anti-tobacco mania hasn't quite set in completely in baltimore (i still could last year, i am hoping you still can anyway).
so the yankees and the red sox spend, spend, spend. big deal. baltimore is getting its share of that luxury tax money, they can use it to help pay for contracts for the nice young players they have, and are going to get. things just aren't that terrible. it doesn't hurt to see the glass half full.
