And, yes, Tebow was a "project pick." For the love of everything good, the first thing they did in training camp was "teach him how to throw!" That's not a good first lesson for a guy drafted to play QB in the NFL.

The only thing that Denver could possibly gain by starting Tebow over Orton for the last few games is:

A) increased chance of severe injury to a QB who thinks he can run and take hits like a LB
B) a few extra hundred dollars worth of ticket sales to gullible fans
C) a few extra hundred dollars worth of jersey sales to the same gullible fans (wait ... no they won't ... the NFL gets the vast majority of jersey sale revenue)
D) a million more criticism (well deserved) for wasting a first round pick on a guy who, at this point, is not nearly ready to be an NFL QB

Their last two games are home games and the Broncos didn't sell out a home game for the first time in about 45 years when the Rams came to town a few weeks back. They need butts in seats for the concessions and merchandise sales.

fielding a competent team will likely do more to fix that situation than starting an unprepared qb.

Well they've proven they can't do that with their 1st teamers, haven't they?

Besides, Orton hasn't taken any snaps this whole week at practice; his ribs are still dinged up from last week.

I dunno, he hasn't looked bad. He hasn't looked great, but what I'm liking is the energy the team is playing with on Defense after getting pantsed on their first play.

Yeah, those intangibles he came in the league with are a sad thing to see, right? The team is rallying around him. His O-line is protecting him both in pass protection and in "extra-curricular engagements". His passes while lacking the crispness of a veteran, are being placed, for the most point, where he needs them to be.

:) im sure itll take him a few years to really be that good, but why not let him give it a try? i understand college and nfl is very different but he was one of the best college players and from the times ive seen him play he looks pretty good

I'd say this Broncos team is looking pretty competent.

Raiders are a much improved team, I doubt they make the playoffs but they'll probably finish 8-8 this year, either way they are starting to turn it around

Let's be honest here, with Tebow the Broncos offense generated exactly 8 first downs and 235 yards in offense .

The week before Orton produced 20 first downs and 288 yards, the week before that when they only scored 6 points they had 13 first downs and 237 yards.

You would have to be delusional to think that Tebow's debut was a success, it wasn't as bad as many might have thought but it sure wasn't a success.

Does that mean in the games where the team "rallied" around Orton, providing him decent pass protection and allowing him to put up solid passing numbers, that Orton displayed excellent "intangibles", himself?

you weren't watching the last two weeks. Heck, last week, it looked like the whole offense quit.

An attitude like the one Tebow brings is infectious. That being said, I believe I said that Tebow didn't look bad but didn't look great. The game yesterday also pointed out the biggest issue with the Broncos team that a lot of the media around here won't talk about. They have had a different Defensive coordinator every year for the past 6 years. You just cannot have any sort of continuity when your direction and focus change every single year.

Actually, I was watching. As a westerner, I am afflicted with Cowboys/Broncos games every single Sunday and I can't stand it. The Broncos are terrible. They have very little talent on the O-line or D-line. Their coaching situation is a disaster.

Admit it, Tebow is a gimmick to sell tickets. That's not worth 3 draft picks. Period. It was a terrible decision by the franchise and was a ridiculous waste.

That said, I really like the way that Tebow runs and think that he would be a fantastic RB or TE in the NFL. The QB position requires the ability to do something that he cannot do at an NFL level - throw the football. He can have as many "intangibles" as Santa Claus, but the "tangible" defensive players are going to destroy him way more often than not because he cannot throw the football at an NFL level.

to be fair, he wasn't asked to throw the rock much, either. And averaging 17 yards per completion in yesterdays game (8 completions, 138 yards passing) doesn't sound like someone who can't throw.

You're right, though. He has no O or D line to speak of. Players who in the past have been effective haven't been this year (Ryan Clady, for example). The team has little ability to run the ball, which makes it easier for defenses to stop the pass. Play action doesn't work effectively when you have no running game.

Also a defense that only plays 3 quarters at most in any given game cannot win football games.

Frankly, with Tebow, they should work the old roll-out/QB Option. Three basic progressions out of the pocket (short, intermediate, and long) and then throw it away or get some yards with your legs. The same basic style offense Denver ran when Gary Kubiak was the offensive coordinator here and we had Jake Plummer (the last Denver QB, BTW, to win a post season game) running the offense.

Did I just bring this thread full circle? I think I might have.

Oh, Tebow can't throw a touch pass to save his life. Every one of the handful he threw sailed high on him.
