and the orioles are going to get a better draft pick than stupid toronto. which isn't going to sniff anything resembling the playoffs.
which would matter more if the baseball draft was somewhat less of a crap shoot.

eh. markakis is pretty doggone good. the wieters kid everybody thinks will do alright. the pitcher they drafted last season or the season before was supposed to be the best pitcher in the draft. they have pitchers in the minors they are quite excited about. and they could, if they want to, mop up what are universally thought of as the top prospects and trade them for established veteran talent, thus taking money down off the five and the eight, as it were, and going to the poker room. and the yankees and red sox are helping to pay the freight.April 23, 2009 at 08:50PM View BBCode
the thing is, now they would need to trade for them. Sabathia, Texiera, Burrell, Dunn, all GREAT fits for this team. Instead they did nothing.April 23, 2009 at 08:55PM View formatted

Huff and Scott arent stars, but they are very very good, and certainly dont need replacing.
I think if one hitter were added to the lineup (to take over for mora, or to be put at DH rather than Felix Pie being put in LF and Luke Scott at DH), Mark Texiera, Pat Burrell, or Adam Dunn wouldve done the trick from the past off season, a CC Sabathia quality SP, and a few mid level SPs, their team would compete this year. but they didnt do that.

And all the fans spend all of their disposable income on Esskay hot dogs and the O's make like a brazillion dollars on advertising and then they buy the entire Japanese Baseball League and import all the best players and Teixeira and Sabathia are like, you'd better trade us to the O's because they're the future and then Hank Steinbrenner has a heart attack and New Yankee Stadium turns out to be built on a giant sink hole and it collapses into the ground and travels all the way through the Earth to China and then Barack Obama is like, all this Presidentin' is a lot of work, I'd rather just spend my days watching the O's and Rush Limbaugh is the first in the line of succession and he signs the edict to kill all the liberals and then the O's win the World Series the end.

hell, put texiera at 1st, move Huff to 3rd, and sign Dunn to DH, forget about Sabathia, you get some pitchers who should at least...be in the major leagues... and win with hitting...April 24, 2009 at 12:30AM View BBCode
gerry hunsicker, the GM at tampa bay, is by far the best in all of baseball.April 24, 2009 at 01:26AM View BBCode
I dont know about that. Picking good players with 1 overall picks isnt too amazing...April 24, 2009 at 01:46AM View BBCode
the astros farm system was the best in baseball throughout the 90's, and early 2000's.April 24, 2009 at 02:09AM View BBCode
Freddy Garcia, Carlos Guillen (before he was particularly good) and.....something else. It was a perfectly defensible trade.April 24, 2009 at 02:11AM View BBCode
But Hunsicker didn't have anything to do with the Glenn Davis deal.April 24, 2009 at 10:43AM View BBCode
You're right, Bob Watson made that trade.April 24, 2009 at 10:53AM View BBCode
I just realized how completely off topic that original post about this guy was.April 24, 2009 at 09:49PM View BBCode
well, I never meant to go off topic, was simply commiserating about the downfall of my team and ballmore's. a huge part of the reason is the respective owners.April 24, 2009 at 10:28PM View BBCode

Not to mention, he finally put a ball in play (groundout) and actually reached base (four-pitch walk) -- I think in the same game.
