There are 2 things that we will be working on over the next couple weeks that will address general site slowness. The first has to do with how News is stored on the backend. Secondly, I'd like to change how Single Season data is stored so that it is put in its own database. That should make it much easier to transition from one season to the next.
I'm working on moving a few emergency changes that were done on the main site to beta and then will start working on this stuff.
If everything goes well, you shouldn't notice anything. I'll keep you posted on what I'm up to.

As the site grows, leagues accumulate data, etc. that is causing some pages to become really slow.
