Some NBC idiot blogger has just called Thomas the "Most underrated hitter of All Time", personally I fail to see how a guy with two MVP Awards, and four other top 5 appearances, can be considered the most underrated hitter of all time but, whatever.
Thomas could flat out mash and even though he [url=http://majorleaguejerk.com/2010/02/have-a-nice-life-you-piece-of-human-excrement/]may not have been everyone's favorite person[/url] I gotta figure he's a sure thing HOFer but his "dickness" will probably keep him out on the first ballot .

I saw a link to a story on Baseball Reference about Frank Thomas and the title said something like, "We say good bye to Frank Thomas." I assumed he had died until I clicked through and read the story. I thought he'd been retired for a few years now.Tyson

As dirtdevil mentions his bat packed it in after the 2007 season, he played '08 in Toronto/Oakland and then couldn't find a job in '09 and so I guess he, unlike Barry Bonds, realized that his playing days were over.

This is the dumbest and most substance-free piece of writing I've read in some time, maybe ever. Since this jackass didn't bother to provide, well, any evidence that Frank Thomas is/was a tool, maybe someone else could? I remember some sniping back and forth with Kenny Williams (who is already a pretty-well established unpleasant person in his own right), but I honestly can't think of anything else bad that has been said about him. And he was very much at the forefront of players vocally against steroids from the beginning, and also had that physique from the beginning.
I am not saying that he's a saint, I don't know, but that is such a cowardly, lazy, and bullshit piece of writing that I don't think it should go unremarked upon. It is some Glenn Beck type ish right there.

So he was unhappy with his pay, and some guy in Iowa made the same tired argument against him that has been made against athletes who are unhappy with their pay for the last fifty years. This is what we are using to make the case that he's an ass? Because this seems to me like the kind of thing that's usual in just about every field, and is not limited to jerks.

Eddie Murray was never given glowing press, either. There were always comments like "moody", "unapproachable", etc. But his teammates respected and liked him.
Sportswriters ask the same stupid questions over and over. I'm thinking these guys just didn't like answering, and the press took it as them being surly.

I'll admit I was wrong in my comment. I searched the web and couldn't find anything bad teammates have said about the guy. lol again that the article referenced "future stars" such as Ray Durham and Jose Valentin, both of whom became solid players, but nowhere near Frank Thomas' class of hitter.

He'll go up against Maddux, Glavine, Mussina and Jeff Kent as 1st year players in 2014 plus whoever is still "gaining ground", I don't like his first ballot chances .
The 2011 and 2012 classes are weak, only Bagwell really in those two classes so that clears the way for guys like Blyleven, Alomar, Larkin maybe Martinez or Raines along with Bagwell, maybe Larry Walker gets a few votes too .
2013 will be interesting to be sure with Bonds, Clemens and Sosa on the ballot but also Biggio, Schilling and Piazza .

Blyleven is getting in next year. Alomar, too. It really doesn't look good for Tim Raines. Biggio has the 3,000 hits (and is eminently worthy, anyway); Bagwell should be automatic, too.
Who knows where steroids are in the game's consciousness by 2013 -- if not much has changed, Bonds and Clemens and certainly Sosa could get the McGwire treatment. Schilling will get in eventually, which is more than that ass hole deserves. Piazza caught the steroid rumors and the gay, so call him a maybe.

Frank Thomas is one of the best hitters of his generation. Sure, Maddux and (maybe) Glavine are more "automatic" HOFers, but to suggest he'll lose traction to Mussina and Jeff Kent would suggest you're as clueless as the BBWAA -- in which case, you might be on to something.Blyleven is getting in next year. Honestly, I don't think a guy with 500+ home runs, a .300 AVG (which matters to probably a ton of voters), a .974 OPS (which matters to very few voters, but still, NINE-SEVENTY-FOUR) and two MVPs is going to lose too many votes to Jeff Kent or Mike Mussina. I don't see too many guys saying, "You know, Jeff Kent and/or Mike Mussina get my vote, but I'm leaving Frank Thomas off my ballot. Too prickly."

I know they're not rational, which is exactly why you're emboldened to make this kind of point. I just don't think they're that stupid. He's got the credentials, and perhaps more importantly, he seems to be free and clear of the specter of PEDs. Maybe the voters flub it on his first try, but it won't be because they saw Mike Mussina and Jeff fucking Kent on the same ballot.
