Baseball has changed in 25 years

This game is on MLB Network right now. It's not over yet, so don't tell me how it ends!

Seriously, check out the box score. Sisk is obviously tired and walks in the tying run in the 9th. THEN Davey Johnson brings in closer Jesse Orosco. Why did he wait? The TV people (granted one is Tim McCarver) don't seem too surprised by this. Were bullpens handled that differently back then? I was watching baseball back then, but I didn't understand strategy at all at the time.

Maybe Orosco wasn't ready to go? Bullpen usage hasn't changed that much since the mid-80's.

man, orosco. maybe he wasn't ready like craig said. sometimes managers just hope the pitcher will get out of it, and it doesn't happen. or the phone didn't work. or johnson was taking a crap. who knows?

Maybe the Mets used 7 guys the game before and Sisk was the only fresh arm .

Maybe Sisk owned Clark, historically, and Clark hit like .472 lifetime against Orosco, there are lots of reasons why the Mets stuck with Sisk ......... starting with the fact that, you know, they're the Mets.

That game is opening day. And this was the mid-80's Mets, when they briefly ruled the world. I'd say the "Davey Johnson was taking a crap" theory is as good as any.

the Mets won anyway. that is the real tragedy here.

It hasn't changed that much, but the SP going 5 2/3 followed by 7 different RPs hadn't fully taken hold.

MLB Network interrupted the game in the top of the 10th to broadcast the Ned Yost press conference, which they stuck with till the top of the hour, so we never got to see the end of it. This seems like a bad programming decision.
