The once mighty OT board

Looks like the OT board jumped the shark once and for all. Now it boasts spam ads and idiotic letters form DoctorXXX. Seems like it served its purpose, and it's slow, painful death is complete. :yawn:

the off topic board sort of migrated to the ogl, is my understanding. after that imploded too, there wasn't much left to migrate back.

Though most of that group migrated to the OGL, it was impossible to keep them from stirring up trouble outside of the league's board. What really finished it off, though, was that some of the OT people took Tyson's objections personally and chose to make a fight out of it -- mostly because they enjoyed it, I think. That lead to several key figures getting banned. Happy was one, but the most important one was probably Craig. That pushed the OT people onto an off-site board. But without the presence of the game to sustain the clique, that board died out.
Frankly, I think it was an interesting phenomenon. It teaches us something about the dynamics of interactions on the internet. Well, okay -- maybe it's not THAT interesting. Oh, if only they were here to tell me what a moron I am. I miss it so.

The Off Topic phenomenon was really a one-time confluence of a few SimD players who liked to argue, slam one another, and generally be stupid. It was always a nuisance for Tyson (understandably, really), but it's real downfall began when the Sports Talk forum was opened and OT-style arguments began to spill over to that forum. That was when our brand of stupidity caught the attention of people outside the OT clique.Though most of that group migrated to the OGL, it was impossible to keep them from stirring up trouble outside of the league's board. What really finished it off, though, was that some of the OT people took Tyson's objections personally and chose to make a fight out of it -- mostly because they enjoyed it, I think. That lead to several key figures getting banned. Happy was one, but the most important one was probably Craig. That pushed the OT people onto an off-site board. But without the presence of the game to sustain the clique, that board died out.

You're not a moron, and we haven't completely lost touch. You just have to know where to look and who to talk to. Happy almost did the impossible this year by pissing people off. What's worse, he didn't even do anything, and that's what pissed people off the most. You'll just have to ask.
I'm... still in Southern California. Living as impoverished as my GI Bill allows. I've met andrew in person, since he's basically right up the 5; I still want to do the OGL BBQ someday, too.
