2012 AL MVP, my rant

So the stat heads are all yakking about how Mike Trout should be the MVP, instead of Miguel Cabrera, acuz Trout's really fast, plays great center field, etc. etc, etc and the one stat every single one brings up is his massive WAR of 10.7.
WAR of course is a theoretical number that represents how many more games a team wins with a player in the lineup than a replacement level player would add.
So here's the thing Trout has a WAR of 10.7, which means if he ain't there the Angels win 78 games, and miss the playoffs........except of course that they missed the playoffs
with Trout.
Miggy, who won the old boring Triple Crown, had a WAR of 6.9, meaning without him the Tigers win 81 games and miss the playoffs, except with Miggy the Tigers not only make the playoffs they win the American League pennant.
Also consider what
replacement really means, if Trout isn't there the Angels just move Wells into CF, Trumbo plays LF and Peter Bourjos gets more at bats, Bourjos sucks but not outrageously, his WAR was 1.1.
If Miggy isn't there the Tigers have to play, I don't know..... Don Kelly, maybe, at 3B who sucks an immortal amount with a negative WAR.
So bottom line is Miggy makes it possible for his team to go to the World Series rather than miss the playoffs, Trout makes it possible for his team to finish third instead of fourth but miss the playoffs regardless.
So shut up already SABR heads, the American League MVP is Miguel Cabrera.

honestly, i don't see any way that cabrera doesn't win. he's a triple crown winner on a playoff team. trout had a great year, but what cabrera did is historic.

Yeah but Dirt, you know the Triple Crown is just two counting numbers plus batting average, all the cool kids know those things mean nothing. So despite Miggy winning the Triple Crown, plus leading the league is slugging, OPS and total bases he's just not the SABR MVP, acuz you know..............WAR.
Even though, of course, WAR is hypothetical and the other numbers are actual, WAR is king. Mike Trout was worth almost 4 more wins than Cabrera, when compared to a AAAA player who doesn't exist, so Mike Trout is the MVP, and if you disagree then you just don't understand baseball.

(trout is their new poster boy btw. they got it going with all this, stolen bases, going from first to third, scoring from second and all that, running down all these balls in the outfield. Larry Bowa was like "So, what you're saying is, if a hitter can't run, he can't be MVP"? this was actually something of an awesome statement.)
((Bowa was one of the bigger supporters of Cabrera in the debate. Mostly, he was coming, although he didn't want to say it, from the managerial side. If you told a manager, you can have either one, all the managers would take Miggy. because he can carry a team, offensively, right by himself quite often, and even occasionally overcome a bad pitching performance on the strength of his hitting. thats MVP.))
