Your First Prospect

November 29, 2012 at 05:38AM View BBCode

Just for fun, I kind of thought this up.

What is the first prospect that YOU brought into your minor league system, YOU fully developed, YOU brought to the bigs, and had them play all (or most) of their career with you.

Mine was this: http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=6985759

Admittedly, not a future HOF'er. But he was a pretty good starting catcher for a lot of years, was the first time I made even a semi-effective 1st round pick after playing the game for a few seasons, and the real guy with his name would kill for those stats.

So, what's the first effective prospect you picked and developed?

For my first draft in SimD, I landed the following two players at #4 and #6 overall.

[url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=4893780]B.J. McGarr[/url], 2B

With the exception of his OS31 year, he put up some very solid years from age 28-35.

[url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=4893663]Bill Lowdermilk[/url], P

I got lucky that he wasn't grabbed at #5. He grabbed 3 CYA's along the way.

My first league was Tony Gwynn and I joined midseason. The first guy I ever drafted was #1 overall that next season...

Not sure if he qualifies as a "prospect" as he spent less than a year in the minors but [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=2086225]Ned Logan[/url] was the first player I drafted in a pay league.

He was a 21 year old D- endurance reliever, something I'd probably never draft at #3 now but he turned out awfully good. Take away his first two developing years and his last creaky old geezer year and in the 15 seasons in between he averaged 88 appearances a year, 39 saves in 105 innings with a WHIP of 1.20 and an ERA of 2.94.

He's also one of the many poster boys for the "no name change on former All Stars" rule that sadly came into place long after the asshat who bought the team when I left decided a Hall of Fame reliever should be renamed after [url=http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/tatumke01.shtml]this guy[/url].

This is my First Pick. He was Major League Ready. #1 in the draft. He is the best player over the last 100 years of the league already.

Great idea blackmet..my 1st ever draft pick was

http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=8700423

Now he was Major League ready, but the 2nd round pick didn't turn out too bad after development either

Funny how they remain my favorite players.

Very cool topic indeed. The first dynasty league draft I took part in, I had traded away my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks, so this guy was my first 'true' prospect that I drafted:
http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=8482038&statsorimps=stats
Not great, but pretty darn consistent from day 1.

My next prospect, however, is pretty special (at least to me, of course):

In the KGJL, very few pitchers outside of the '50-'60's dominate like this at such an early age. And worth noting about his Sept. debut in 2000, when he won each of his first 5 starts, was that he cracked his way into the best rotation I've ever had. My #1 SP was Cy Young and AS Starter, #2,3, and 4 were each AS reserves and finished 3-5 in CY voting. And all my #5 starter did was lead the AL in ERA! Hopefully, I can continue to keep a good enough lineup behind him to make a run at 300.

here's mine: http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=6636576

my first draft, didn't know what i was doing, ended up with this guy, stunted his development a bit, went through a few really awful seasons from him early on, but eventually he actually turned out to be a useful reliever on a 3-peat team. Was 2nd in franchise history in Games (pitcher) when he retired.
