Four no hitters in one season
January 20, 2013 at 11:38PM View BBCode
Okay, it's beta where the pitchers do dominate but still there were only 12 no hitters in the entire season so [url=http://beta.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9808902&statsorimps=stats]Bob Lawson's[/url] performance is pretty amazing.
Lawson threw three no-no's in the regular season and then opened the LCS with his fourth of the year.

Someone might even manage to do a Vander Meer in that league.

I don't see anybody that has gone back to back.... yet. There are a few that look to be within a week of each other.
Edit... starts a week apart would be back to back. So there are some... I will post.

Looks to me like the second guy Ducky Owens has had back-to-back twice.
2007-07-13 Ducky Owens of the Cleveland Spiders has thrown a no-hitter against the Toronto Salary Dumps.
2007-07-07 Ducky Owens of the Cleveland Spiders has thrown a no-hitter against the Seattle Hawks.
2006-09-24 Ducky Owens of the Cleveland Spiders has thrown a no-hitter against the Seattle Hawks.
2006-09-19 Ducky Owens of the Cleveland Spiders has thrown a no-hitter against the Texas Twisters.
And the first guy you linked to also did it once:
2009-08-30 Hal Sessi of the Texas Twisters has thrown a no-hitter against the Boston Beer Drinkers.
2009-08-25 Hal Sessi of the Texas Twisters has thrown a no-hitter against the Toronto Salary Dumps.

Different leagues it should be noted, Sessi, Thompson, Thielman and Owens are all in the ASL where there are a whole other set of issues, Lawson's in the BL where there is a pitcher bias but not the extreme numbers of the ASL .

When I was little there was a guy, Mike Jones, at my sister's high school who struck out 10+ a game regularly (three times striking out 16) and pitched a few no-hitters. He was drafted by the Royals in the first round.
After having a cup of coffee in the Bigs at age 20 and the 21, he was going to be the Royals #3 starter in 1982 (at the age of 22). By the way, at 21 years, 1 month and 20 days old, he was the youngest pitcher ever to start a game for the Royals. And he also had pitched a no-hitter in Triple-A Omaha.
However, around Christmas time 1981, he crashed his car while driving under the influence. His broken neck (a dislocation between the fourth and fifth vertebrae) left him temporarily paralyzed - with the unlikelihood of ever walking again. Through rehabilitation he became the first Major Leaguer to come back to the Majors after such an injury.
From a news article: "He did get a World Series ring in 1985. Remember Game 6? He was the guy who led the celebration charge to get to teammate Dane Iorg, leaving Iorg with a bloody nose. He made some good friends -- George Brett is the godfather of the first of their two boys -- and then, in the spring of 1986, he was released and ended up bouncing around the minors before retiring."

That's nuts! Plus another no-hitter that season.
His card will show just his last 10 starts of the season, but that included 2 one-hitters and 2 two-hitters. Good grief!

The ASL is ridiculous, in 2009 my Detroit team won 126 games and missed the playoffs, it was their fourth straight 120+ win season without making the playoffs, 24 players in the American League hit over .400 yet at the same time 10 starting pitchers had ERAs under 1.00. The top 4 teams just kill the bottom four and pad their stats like you wouldn't believe.
How good are the pitching stats on the top teams ?
Over the past five seasons [url=http://beta.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9807092]Angel Fisher[/url] is 119 -29 with an ERA of 1.17, a WHIP of 0.74 and averaging 270 Ks per year - he has never made an All Star team, in the past four years [url=http://beta.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9807577]Bernie Cox[/url] has averaged 27 wins a year with a WHIP of 0.66 and an ERA of 1.10 but he's also been unable to make an All Star team.
In 2007 [url=http://beta.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9807576]Johnny Ritter[/url] went 21-3 with an ERA of
0.36, he missed the All Star game as well .

It appears that those pitchers aren't racking up many CG or ShO despite the gaudy stats. I'm guessing the All-Star spots are going to the guys with a few more innings and the CG.

I had a guy in that league.. The ASL.. Win 29 games, with 12 CG, 8 Shutouts, .64 Whip and 1.05 ERA. Didn't make the All Star team..
