Zeta All Time Rushing Leader

Steve Light, an accidental 1st round pick for Minnesota back in 1969 suffered his 13th and worst career injury today and is lost for the season.

Newsworthy? Not unless you consider he has scratched and clawed his way to 2nd most all-time rushing yards.

Light has 13,472 yards and trails only Dana Thomas http://footballbeta.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=406581 who has 14,807 yards.

Light has amazingly averaged more than 100 yards per game four of the last five seasons and carries a career 4.6 yds/carry average.

As the swelling goes down in his knee, he is summoning ghosts of the gridiron for the strength to follow in the footsteps of NFL MVP Adrian Peterson for one more shot at the all time rushing record.

Steve Light finally caught the recently retired Dana Thomas and is now the Zeta Rushing King with 14,940 yards.

20 carries for 98 yards as a 57 overall with not one red letter skill to his name.

Perhaps ratings are overrated. Health, too.

Actually, I think his health and especially stamina were very helpful. Stamina peaked out at 82, health at 80.

Execution was low - topping out at 37. Speed maxed out at 100, which was nice. I believe he was a 99 on his draft day. Break tackle at 75 was average; Agility was in the 92+ range.

But he was far from a complete package. I think the speed/agility combined with stamina were main drivers. He was hurt more than a dozen times, so he missed games but when he played, nobody else carried the ball.

There were years where almost nobody else ran the ball. In 1974 He rushed the ball 379 times - next highest on the team was 21 - Light had almost 86% of the team's carries.

I think a consistently good offensive line was a big factor too.

He was not the total package, but I assume he had a high carry skill, so he was a pretty good package anyway. This doesn't mean he was meant to star, I had runners with similar skillsets ending their careers with mid 3yds per carry averages and other similarly woeful numbers across the board. Even with good offensive lines. I'm more and more convinced that only the SYSTEM is what makes the world go round.

His carry topped out at 86. Was a 78 on draft day.
