This cycle needs a special name

Red Jackson did something in this playoff game today I've never seen.

Sure, a cycle is neat, but it's not worthy of a special post.

But Jackson also matched the RBI for each hit in succession.

1st inning: 1-run single
3rd inning: 2-run double
5th inning: 3-run triple
10th inning: 4-run home run (aka, walk-off grand slam)

Wow that's amazing I think that has probably never happened in MLB history, especially when the HR was an extra inning walk off

That might turn out to be the last game we ever win in the Clemens League, too. He put us up 2-0, but we lost the next four. The league is at the end of the term with at best longshot odds of continuing.

The symmetry of the performance was a thing of beauty. A fitting departure.

it is called a "natural cycle". 13 major league players have hit for the natural cycle. Leon Culberson, Bob Fothergill, Charlie Gehringer, Tony Lazzeri, Jose Valentin, Bob Watson, Ken Boyer, Tim Foli, Jim Hickman, John Mabry, Billy Williams, Bill Collins and Brad Wilkerson.

Tony Lazzeri's the only one to end on a Grand Slam.

P.S. Lazzeri's feat did not make the headlines, because it was overshadowed. Lou Gehrig hit 4 home runs in the same game.

It is indeed a natural cycle. On top of that, though, each hit brought in the same number of runners as the total bases for that hit. So that's naturally symmetrical.

I'd say that's a supernatural cycle.

That's very cool.

Many years ago in the DNL I had a player hit for what I called the "supercycle", single, double, triple, home run, base on balls and hit by pitch, but the symmetry of Jackson's natural cycle is what sets it apart.

You know what TR, since he didn't reach on an error at any point I'm gonna have to say I'm not impressed...
