Letters to Numbers in Player Grades

August 04, 2013 at 07:11PM View BBCode

There should be an option on player cards to see what number grades they are to give you a better idea of how good the player really is. Perhaps this should not be made possible before the draft because it would make it a little too easy. However it would be nice to see their number grades when trading for a player, deciding to call a player up to the majors, knowing how close they are to bumping up a letter grade.

There are leagues where you can see the numbers. Part of the appeal of letters is not knowing exactly where the player is in every category. If you want to know where your player is, join a number league.

There are numbers leagues already, though you would see them before the draft. And if you really want to know but for some reason don't want to joint a numbers league you can always track them yourself, I use the private notes on the roster page to keep track of how many improves it took each pitcher to get to B+ overall, so I can know how many are left before reaching A-.

Numbers leagues are great for never getting a trade done, the constant back and forth of "yeah but my guy's an 88 in PVR and your guy's only an 85 in control so I need more in return" is mind numbing .

You'll find the numbers-to-letters translation matrix in the Game Guide [url=http://rules.simdynasty.com/index.php/Sim_Dynasty_Game_Guide#Player_Abilities_and_Numerical_Values]here[/url].

Look at a player's "Past Skills," assume the midpoint of the numbers scale, then add their improvements in.

Several owners, myself included at one time, actually create spreadsheets to track this sort of thing. One caveat: in the OS, ABE will change a player's starting skill grade upon occasion, since the code is "recreating" the grade based on each player's history.

How do you make a spreadsheet? You use Microsoft Word?

Microsoft Excel is better. But, yes, that is what some owners do.
