ABE's subs are weird sometimes.

In this game, my regular 1B and C both needed to sit. I didn't have a sub 1B on the backups page - so my backup C, with C+ range and six career starts at 1B starts there, and a backup 3B with A- range (and a B arm) catches.

Not that it's the end of the world, but it doesn't make any sense. Any manager on earth, looking at those options, puts the backup C behind the plate and looks for a IF or OF who might not embarrass himself at first. ABE's substitutions should be tweaked to represent that reality as well.

What order do you sub your players in ? If the 1B is ahead of C on the pecking order then ABE will fill that, with the catcher I'm guessing, and then won't have the backup catcher as an option when it's time to fill the catcher spot.

I always have my catcher as #1 in my fill order to avoid this sort of thing.

I agree... the backup order is important.

I set mine as Catcher first, SS second, and so on... ranked by the importance of the position for my team -- even if I don't have any players listed on the backups list.

That's probably the case, but even so - even if ABE is filling in the 1B first, a 3B with good range should beat a C for the spot. I know I can fix the order (and I have now), but I still think ABE can be improved.

For instance: once ABE had to pick a C, and the real backup C wasn't available (most likely to injury, but in the case of my game, he was in use elsewhere) shouldn't he have picked this backup IF, who has a 39% C rating because someone tried to train him in the minors, over the 3B with no experience behind the plate?

I'm just sayin', it seems a random, in a situation where the logic would be pretty simple to program- something like, because C is a specialized spot, fill it first. Fill it with the best available backup C. If no legit backup is available, pick someone with a C rating.

If you haven't picked a specific backup I think Abe still just goes down the roster as listed on the depth chart.

If you don't bother to specify backups, Abe does his best based solely on primary position. I think 1B goes something like 1B-LF-RF-C-3B... but I don't have the info in front of me. The logic for this actually pre-dates the backup system and secondary positions.

I think this could be improved upon, I agree. But since you have a way to specifically tell Abe what to do here, it likely won't be a high priority to address this.
