add league info to trade advice automation

July 07, 2014 at 08:18PM View BBCode

i think it'd be helpful to people who offer advice on trades if the automated advice post also contained some more basic info about the league, mainly minor league system, and if it's var dev or not. could be put in the subject line, instead of "Dynasty League" or "Speed League" it could say, well, "Dynasty League", or "System 3 Standard Dev League", for example.

Agreed, adding a link to the "League Rules" page along with the rosters and standings link would be very helpful.

it can't hurt and it would be useful in enough cases to make it worthwhile but those things also don't matter nearly as much as the people using them as justification to underpay would like to think.

The minor league system is the big one. Prospects that can't be developed have lower value than prospects that can. It wouldn't hurt to add this info.

I don't read those posts often - you more veteran owners do a good job of giving advice and whenever I did offer a little, it was usually shot down by someone else - but it sure seems to me that the owner posting the thread is, in most cases, looking to make a point and show the offering owner why it's a bad deal.

It's their way of saying, "See? See? It *is* a bad deal. Why can't you see that? This is why I keep declining."

I think the ratio of people saying, "Yeah, it's a good trade" to people saying, "No, it's garbage" is about 1 in 10.

This is probably very close the the ratio between accepted trades and declined trades as well.

as someone who tries to be reasonably active in that forum, I have to disagree. there are some of those threads, for sure, but the majority are from people who are legitimately looking for opinions.

That's fair. And, as I mentioned, I don't read a lot of them, anymore. About the only time I look (or comment) on them these days if I see one sitting on the board for more than a couple of hours and no one has replied yet. But y'all are pretty good about responding quickly.

I suppose if it's a new(er) owner posting for advice, that's one thing. It's the offers I see from veteran owners which are, I think, trying to make a point. I know I've used it that way.

I have also, by the way, been legitimately asking for opinions, as well.

Either way it's used, it's a valuable tool on the site and getting that little bit more information about the league is a good idea.

I don't post advice nearly as often as I used to, I got tired of people with agendas trashing the deals and/or the advice given.

I have to disagree. As someone who was new to the game in the not so distant past, I used the Trade forum quite often when I was starting out. It's a great wat to get objective evaluations of the players involved in the trade.

As I've gained expereinece and Have a good feel for the leagues, owners and needs of my teams, I find I have not used the forum much recently. There are times I've made trades that I know would get shot down in the trade forum, and there have been times I've made trades that would have gotten the "Accept that offer before that guy sobers up" response.

Sometimes it simply helps to get a more objective viewpoint.

.... But anyway, as for the OP, I think the suggestion is a very good one. I know I have an entirely different attitude in the AGL where we have system 4 minors vs the TJL and JGL with system 6.

Personally I know when I'm asking advice in the AGL with rules pretty different from the standard, that I always make sure to not that in my post.
