What do you guys think? I would say the yankees did, as usual.January 09, 2005 at 04:27PM View BBCode
It could come out pretty even. Johnson could start to rapidly decline after this season and Vazquez could revert back to the form he showed in the first half last year and continue to develop into an ace. Or Vazquez could continue to suck and Johnson could be a dominant pitcher well into his 40's. Or they could both flop this season. There are a lot of possible scenarios but most likely it will come out about even.January 09, 2005 at 04:30PM View BBCode
Yeah, Johnson is getting preety old and the Yankees, if theyre lucky, could still coax 2 maybe 3 solid years out of Johnson's arm. Vazquez is still preety young, and hes a solid starter, too.January 09, 2005 at 05:09PM View BBCode
The Yankees with this trade can end up VERY VERY good or with bad luck and all those ancient arms they could end up REALLY bad too. Or at least bad by Yankee standardsJanuary 09, 2005 at 05:49PM View BBCode
Yankees already made the playoffs. What they need is for Randy to give them a few strong playoff starts.January 09, 2005 at 05:51PM View BBCode
the Dbacks got 8 million, a good deal if you ask meJanuary 09, 2005 at 05:56PM View BBCode
I hate in when trades are made just for the $. Maybe its because I'm a Redsox fan and we sold Ruth.January 09, 2005 at 05:57PM View BBCode
hm. But the Yanks got arguably the best left-hander ever, even though he's old, never underestimate the power of the unit. I think he still has 2 good seasons in his arm.January 09, 2005 at 07:11PM View BBCode
Age doesnt matter when you can still throw K's :spin:January 09, 2005 at 07:16PM View BBCode
That's right, He threw his 7th no hitter when he was in his 40's.January 09, 2005 at 07:23PM View BBCode
The Yankees definately got the better of the deal this year. Even if Javier Vazquez was to pitch to his potential in the playoffs for the '05 Yankees, he's no five-time Cy Young Award winning Hall of Famer. In five years, when Johnson has retired, even if he does have a ring or two more, this deal may look great for the Diamondbacks, who will still have the high potential of Vazquez. I'd say they managed pretty well out of a bad situation and deserve some positive credit.January 09, 2005 at 07:25PM View BBCode
I believe it worked out well for both ball clubs. Johnson helps Yanks get another pennant and Vazquez gets better and becomes the studJanuary 10, 2005 at 06:46AM View BBCode
Here's a quote from Arizona general partner Ken Kendrick:January 10, 2005 at 09:05AM View BBCode
They're paying Green over $10 million a year on his extention, which means he is essentially a FA signing.January 10, 2005 at 01:08PM View BBCode

Green could end up being a bargain. I know he's struggled the past couple of years but remember he was a 40/20 guy just a couple of seasons ago, plus the D-Backs got to renetotiate his contract so that he's not making 16 mil this season but rather an average of 10 over the next three. Additionally, the Dodgers are picking up most of his tab for this year, the Yankees are paying for Vazquez plus and they don't have to pay Johnson's 16 mil. Even with their free agent spending spree I think the D-Backs will end up paying less this year than last (although the payroll might be higher-the did receive 19 million from the Dodgers and Yankees) plus they'll have a significantly improved team (but how could it have been worse?)January 10, 2005 at 02:53PM View BBCode
Shawn Green is a preety good player, and the D-Backs need some of those:lol:Pages: 1
