BELTRAN SIGNS WITH METS!

Really irritating when saying he wants to sign with a competitor then ditches great teams for whoever would give him the most money(119 million over 7 years) and worse of all he kept teams hanging on for son long like the Astros, that they lost out on most of the other marquee free agents and now have little to no chance to get Clemens back

it is a good thing for the mets they are rebuilding.. hopefully they will get sammy next...

Signing Sammy would be a sorry move for the Mets. But they are used to making sorry moves, so maybe they will get Sammy. Congrats Beltran! Your rich! But you'll never win a world series, but you probably allready know that ;)

For those who thought that Beltran wanted to play with a contender-remember he's represented by Scott Boras who never cares about that kind of thing. He takes the money and runs.

I was hopeful that Omar Minanya would be a good GM for the Mets and not follow in the tradition of throwing money at problems, however, that does not seem to be the case.For those who thought that Beltran wanted to play with a contender-remember he's represented by Scott Boras who never cares about that kind of thing. Well this certainly won't put the Mets over the top. This guy as a hitter is no Manny Ramirez remember. Sure he had good playoff series, but he played in that bandbox in Houston also. You heard it here first, he will never hit 30 Home runs in a season playing in Shea Stadium. He'll be good,but figure .280 25hrs 100rbis...

Well, so much for Beltran saying he wanted to play for a winner. He had that chance in Houston. Does he really think the Mets are closer to winning than the Astros?At least he'll be buried on a lousy team and Royals and Astros fans won't have to watch him play in October anymore. Given that his average season for his first six years is 27 homers, 94 RBI, .284 your numbers may not be far off. Keep in mind, though, that he missed a big chunk of the 2000 season, and then missed most of the first month of 2003. I'd say he's a 30 HR, 100 RBI guy, who'll hit .290-.300.
But you forgot to mention that he also averages 32 SB a year and almost never gets thrown out. He is the career leader in SB pct for players with 100 attempts or more. Last year he was 42-3 in steal attempts. And he's a brilliant center fielder.
He's a great player, no question. He had a great playoffs, when the chance to earn big money was there. Now he has his big money. Is he a guy who can motivate himself based solely on pride, now that he's worth more than a lot of Third World countries? That question remains to be answered.

The Mets will still finish under .500. Beltran helps them out alittle bit but they have so many holes it isn't even funny. Their outfield is complete but Cliff Floyd has a mandatory 2 month DL spot reserved for him every year. Piazza is aging and declining. They have no first baseman, no second baseman, a young and unproven injury prone shortstop and a young and unproven 3b. Their rotations is pretty good but really old as well. Glavine is aging and Martinez had one of his worst years ever last year. After that you have Tracshel, an above average pitcher at best, Benson who is average and Zambrano who is below average. They also have no bullpen.Pages: 1
