Anyhow, here's my prediction of the Coaches Top 10 for next week - want to see how close I get to the pollsters - assuming Kansas holds on:
1) Illinois
2) North Carolina
3) Duke
4) Kansas
5) Boston College
6) Kentucky
7) Syracuse
8) Wake Forest
9) Louisville
10) Michigan State

Just got home from watching BC-Georgetown at a bar with some fellow BC alums. Wow, our team looked pretty good I must say.Anyhow, here's my prediction of the Coaches Top 10 for next week - want to see how close I get to the pollsters - assuming Kansas holds on:

3) Duke
4) Kansas

2 thru 6 should be interesting how it breaks down. Duke lost, but they still only have 1 loss while NC has 2. Kansas, Kentucky, and BC were all pretty close last week in the rankings.

Last I saw Texas beat OK State which is a pretty good team. Im not caught up with college basketball like I should be but shouldnt they be in the top 10?

They lost to OU, and tonight they got demolished by Kansas. They are missing two of their 4 best players. Their best player, PJ Tucker, is ineligible for the rest of the season because of poor grades, and their starting center, freshmen LaMarcus Aldridge, is out and may need surgery due to a hip injury. This year was suppose to be a building year, but they were doing pretty well until they lost those two. Next year they should be very good, with 3 of their best players being freshmen, their best player being a sophomore, and one of their other very good players being a junior.[Edited on 1-30-2005 by Cubsfan13]

I've seen BC play in person twice this year and they have looked really good against my boys from Providence. Granted we are not very good this year but BC didn't seem to have a weak spot and Al Skiner is a great coach.

3 reasons I'm going to miss being in the Big East when BC leaves:
UCONN
St. Johns
Providence
We have good rivalries with all those schools. I wonder if they'll try to play some games anyhow. As for football, I don't feel like we really have any rivals in the Big East. Some good matchups some years like this year with Pitt and Syracuse, but those schools are too far away and too different from BC for any good rivarly to come out of it. I don't feel like BC really got more fired up for any of the Big East games vs other games.
I don't know if we'll have any good rivals once we join the ACC though. I could see Wake Forest being a potential rival. And Duke possibly, but they're much worse than BC in football, and generally much better in hoops.

Oh, you're a Providence guy, huh? I thought for sure you guys would beat us the other day.3 reasons I'm going to miss being in the Big East when BC leaves:

We looked good in the first half but our ball handling this year is disgusting. I think we average about 20+ turnovers a game.You'll be glad to know that BC-PC have agreed to still play once a year with home court alternating. It is a fun rivalry that I enjoy watching.
I'd watch out for Duke football. With the name that they already have and a conference that is going to explode in popularity they could get good in a hurry.

One of the best quarterbacks in the country went to Duke. He said he doesn't expect to play football his first year, just basketball, but he may end up playing football eventually.

Technically, you guys are matched up with us in the new ACC divisions. Each team has a "rival" from the other division that they play every year, and BC gets matched up with VT.

Technically, you guys are matched up with us in the new ACC divisions. Each team has a "rival" from the other division that they play every year, and BC gets matched up with VT.

Yea, they're pretty even in basketball and football.

1) Be evenly matched. One team can't beat the other team every year.
And then one of these 4
2A) Be close in geography.
or
2B) Be similar schools to the point where a decent percentage of your student body applied to both schools.
or
2C) You've been playing each other for so many years (USC/Notre Dame) or have had a large number of classic games (Redskins/Cowboys)
or
2D) You have something else major in common (ie both Catholic schools, both engineering schools, both left the same conference maybe?)
I think 2B might apply for Wake/BC, or Duke/BC, but I'm not sure about Maryland. VT might become a rival of BC based on us both coming from the Big East - even though we really weren't rivals while in the Big East. Or Miami perhaps.

You want a rivalry with another team in the ACC? Be proactive. Pick some fights in the stands against the fans of a team of your choosing. Scream offensive things at the opposing players. Barrage their message boards with incoherent ramblings and meaningless stats. Set up your own site like www.Clemsongradsaremorons.com or www.allyellowjacketsareinbreds.org. Rivalries don't just fall in your lap, you have to work on them. Especially if you're a school from Boston joining a conference with no other teams north of College Park, Maryland.

I'm a Washington guy, and I always enjoy watching the Washington/Washington State rivalry games, particularly in football with the Apple Cup. Basketball is pretty good as well with the Dawgs kicking ass; both teams used to suck at basketball.

I wanted to say the Huskies are a second-round tourney exit waiting to happen, but I definitely think they'll make it to the Sweet 16--but not farther.

They're doing hella better than I originally thought and could push for a #1 seed if they win the Pac-10. Sweet 16, Elite 8 will be satisfying for me.

They have no chance at a number one seed. The pac10 isn't good enough for a team that already has a few losses to get one. Robinson is a damn good player, though, and I think that he could lead them pretty far in the tournament.

Arizona's pretty much their only competition in the Pac-10 but they've been kicking everybody else's ass with the 2nd highest scoring offense in the nation.Pages: 1
