We already knew that the all-star game is a joke.

It is nice to see Jeter finally not make the team though.

Jeter is better than the All-Star Game.

I think I just threw up in my mouth....

This is one of my favorites.

"Neither can I, and Jeter is the Jordan of baseball."

In terms of marketability and championships won, yes..... in terms of unbelievable heaps of godly talent, no.

Jeter was the best player on the list of 5 for the last spot.

But how many times has he gotten in while taking another player's spot who is more deserving?

If Jeter is the best player in the game please tell me how many MVP's he has. OK how many top 5 finishes in MVP? C'mon one 3rd place finish on a team that wins every season? No other top 5 finishes in MVP. Sounds like a good player but nowhere near the best player in the game.

Jeter isn't even close to being the best shortstop on his own team.

Laughable. And the topic of this thread says it all.

Who has the second most hits in baseball over the past few years? I'll give you one guess.

He performs day in and day out and has solidified himself as one of the best short stops in the majors.

Who has more hits over his first 8 seasons than anyone in baseball history? Yeah, it's the guy that's not going to the Allstar Game. Jeter, at the very least, should have won the vote for the last man. Scott Podsednik? Please.

Jeter: .309/.393/.454 11 homers 37 RBIs 10 SB

Podsednik .293/.363/.341 0 homers 17 RBIs 44 SB

Other than SBs Jeter pwns Podsednik in each category.

Jeter should go based on his stats from previous seasons? Come again??

I didn't say that. If you look the stats I posted were from THIS season.

Baseball Weekly quoting Derek Jeter in their July 6 issue
I'd be lying if I said I didn't wat to go, but there have been times when I went when there weere others that were more deserving.

Yeah, I got to thinking about that later and realized I missunderstood.

Young still deserves it more than Jeter and Podsednik though :P

Young was more deserving for the reserve spot, but the fact that White Sox campaigning and Yankee-hatred cost the obviously qualified Jeter the last man vote is a joke.

I'm just playing YAS. I've been keeping an eye on Young and I know all about how well he's done since A-Rod left.

The All-Star game is (or at least should be) an exhibition for the fans, meaning that 1) It should be a popularity contest, so screw Derek Jeter, 2) IT SHOULD NOT COUNT, and 3) every team should be represented. Why? So that every fan of every team in every city at least has a chance to see their guy get in and do something good.

Further, I think there should be a rule that at least one player from every city has to play in the game. I make this case in some thread or another every year and nobody listens or cares, because, after all, it was the stupid baseball fans who went ape-crap over a tie in a exhibition game that started this whole "this time it counts" BS.

Ridiculous. Yes, the All-Star should be solely an exhibition game, but that doesn't mean it has to turn into tee-ball, "everyone gets their turn" BS. If one positive thing has come from MLB turning it into a meaningful game, it's that the managers aren't obsessed with getting everyone in the game anymore.
