Game ON !

Is anyone GEEKED for the upcoming NHL season? I'm thrilled about the prospect of my hometown Blue Jackets being able to compete with the new salary cap in place. Rick Nash should be kicking butt this season too.

Yeah, because adding a salary cap immediately turns a dumpy fat chick with a bad case of eczema and a stuffed animal collection into Scarlett Johansson.

It should help the dumpy fat chick in DC too.

Besides, smart ass, it couldn't possibly get any worse in Columbus than it already is.

Pittsburgh will win, because they will have two of the approximately 15 NHL players I've heard of after they draft Crosby.

I wish FG was still aroung. My dumpy fat chick is getting better looking al the time. Re-signed Nash to a 5 year deal. Signed a back-up keeper, that has a GAA less than 5. Signed to defencemen, Berard and Foote to help keep the biscuit from entering the basket so often. GM McClaine promises another top line forward too. I think Whitney is coming back, which isn't great, but better than Cassells who was let go. Hoping they resign Marchant and Sanderson.

So in other words you're looking forward to being the Cincinnati Reds of hockey.

I'd wish you luck if you mattered but---well its hockey

Not a hockey fan Bart?

I've been following the NHL since about 1989. Was a penguins fan kinda by default. Since I'm a Steeler and Reds fan, and no NHL team in Cincy, glomned on to the Pens. still like them but go for the CBJ now that there is a team in Columbus. My family also frequently attends Ohio State University hockey games.

Sorry cubs, pitt will get last place and the first overall pick in the draft for the second straight year.

As far as Columbus goes Rick Nash is a stud but they have no other legitimate scorers on that team. Also goal keeping is vital to staying in contention. Marc Denis and Martin Prusek just arent going to cut it

I see five teams competing for the cup next year. Four in the west and one in the east.

Colorado - They will rack up the most goals next year with Sakic, Tanguay, Hejduk and Brunette plus they still have Rob Blake on the blue line. But how will there goal keeping hold up?

Detroit - they have a shot but the fact that the average age of the team is 97 could hurt them

Vancouver - Bertuzzi and Naslund are the best scoring duo in the NHL but they are not as well rounded as Det, Dal, or Col

Dallas - Marty Turco is arguably the best goalie in the NHL. Mike Modano and Bill Guerin will rack up tons of points and Jere Lehtinen is one of the best defensive forwards in the game, not to mention Sergie Zubov who runs the power play as well as anyone in the game.

I think its Colorado and Dallas in the Western finals and game 7 will probably decide who moves on, which always seems to be the case when these two teams get together in the playoffs.

In the East I see only one team. Phiadelphia. ESPECIALLY since they added Peter Forseberg who is still the best all around player in the NHL (at least for a few more years) Derian Hatcher was a key signing as well.

New Jersey, Toronto and Ottawa look pretty good as well but I dont see them getting past Philly.

Of course Tampa Bay could also contend but for some reason I think there is no way in hell they will repeat the season they had a few years back.

I think you under estimate Denis. He has had pretty iffy blueliners in front of him lately, and with the addition of Foote and Berard, should help him face easier to stop shots. They also have a scorer in zherdev who tore it up pretty good the last season they played, and having Hrdina winning face-offs and setting Nash and Zherdev up will be good. sanderson, Svitov and Marchant are back too. I know they aren't going to win the Cup this season, but they have a better shot than ever at making the playoffs.

Making the playoffs, come on. 16 teams make the playoffs every year in the NHL. Teams that consistently don't make the playoffs are poorly run, you can almost make it by accident every few years.

Remember that the CBJ share a division with Detroit, Nashville (no pushover) and STL (no pushover).

Here is how the playoffs will likely look this year.

1. Colorado
2. Detroit
3. Dallas
4. Vancouver
5. San Jose
6. Edmonton
7. L.A
8. Nashville
------------bubble teams (all of which are better than Columbus this season)
9. Calagary
10. Minnesota
11. St Louis

The Blue Jackets have thier work cut out for them.

They have four or five great young studs besides Nash but they wont be ready to step up for a few years.

You're probably right, but I hope not. I haven't really looked at the competitions rosters enough to argue intelligently. There are high hopes here in Columbus this season. a winning record/playoff appearance would be welcomed to be sure.
