Watching sox game right now at Tropicana field, about 45 minutes ago matt clement was hit in the back of the head by a hard line drive. He was concious but barely moving. Was rushed to the hospital, and is, according to reports, coherent and aware of his surroundings. Im a sox fan, and this is a big blow, but i could care less about if clement ever pitches again right now, i just hope he'll be ok...July 27, 2005 at 04:41PM View BBCode
I heard about that. It's probably the scariest thing that can happen to a pitcher other than blowing out your arm. Physically he's fine but what fans need to watch out for is his mental state. There have been a number of good pitchers over the years who have had their careers ruined because they could never get their head straight after taking a line drive. Fear can break even the best of players.July 28, 2005 at 05:10AM View BBCode
I saw the replay on SportsCenter and it was pretty scary. The ball rocketed into leftfield after hitting his head. I believe he was released from the hospital today so it sounds like he's ok.July 28, 2005 at 05:44AM View BBCode
Mussina got drilled in the face once, and he came back just fine. Jeff Ballard, a long-forgotten Oriole, got hit in the chest once, and he was never the same after that.July 28, 2005 at 02:13PM View BBCode
I must be the only person alive who didn't see a replay of the line drive. How bad was it? Did Clement go down screaming in pain or did he just pass out?July 28, 2005 at 02:23PM View BBCode
I didn't see the ball hit him but did see Clement being carried off the field on a stretcher with his neck immobilized.Pages: 1
