MVP's

September 07, 2005 at 07:33PM View BBCode

What the hell, might as well get this one up there now. It's inevitable anyway. I don't give a crap who will win, I just want to know who should win.

In the AL, [url=http://www.dugganonline.com/images/arod%20purse.jpg]the guy with the purse[/url].

In the NL, [url=http://wgnradio.com/sports/photos/cubscon2004/derrekleeCC04.jpg]a fine looking black man.[/url]

Popular opinion right now seems to revolve around Pujols or Andruw Jones in the NL and Ortiz in the AL. Pujols would be a fine choice, but Lee has been just as good with the bat and, in my mind at least, is a better fielder. Jones is pretty indefensible outside of "I vote for the guy with all the home runs". I guess you could make a case for him if you still think he's the center fielder he was in, say, 2000 or 2001. He's not. Ortiz is the "clutch is what matters" guy's candidate, discounting the fact that he plays in a better hitter's park than ARod, plays an easier defensive position (when he plays in the field at all) and plays it poorly, and hasn't had as good of a year offensively as ARod. MVP discussions always make me feel a little dirty because you sort of have to dump on guys who are really good. Ortiz is really good, just not as good as ARod.

Agreed on both counts. I think Pujols will (undeservedly) win it in the NL because St. Louis is in 1st and the Cubs are crappy. Andruw Jones' ~.360 OBP should disqualify him, and the fact that he can't even spell his own first name right.

After looking at the stats it sure looks like Jones is not the fielder he was. Which is suprising as he's only 28 years old.

I can't see any debate in the AL. A-Rod it is. The NL will come down to the last few weeks obviously. Basing on past history (both Lee and the Cubs) I'd expect Pujols to win.

The Braves would be nowhere without Jones, the Cards will still be great without Pujols this year.

The Red Sox would NOT be in 1st place without Ortiz, the Yankees would still struggle without ARod.

I agree with Lee and A Rod..but Ortiz and Pujols will win.

I think you're probably right. Especially if the Yankees miss the playoffs, which remains one of the stupider reasons to not give a guy the MVP, somewhere around "he's not a good clubhouse guy" and "he doesn't look good in his uniform".

Pooholes and A-Rod/Ortiz Co-MVP, IMHO

The Yankees are GOING to make the playoffs, even if it is a stupid reason for being the MVP. A-rod deserves it especially because of his glove. I don't know who will get either of them but I will guess A-rod in the AL and Pujols in the NL.

He likes ducks...

Clemens is going to get robbed for the NL Cy Young, but that's okay, because he didn't deserve to win in 2001.

I'd hardly call leading the AL Wild Card "struggling" although I do admit that this year's team is much weaker than the more recent teams. Anyway, there should be no question that A-rod is the AL MVP. He's been, by far, the Yankees most consistent and best hitter all season. His numbers are outstanding and he could possibly win the triple crown this year. David Ortiz is a great hitter, but that's all he his. Rodriguez's offensive numbers are better than Ortiz, and he is a terrific fielder. Here are the numbers:

Ortiz: .294/.391/.591 38 homers 120 RBI

Arod: .321/.422/.605 40 homers 108 RBI

Arod's numbers are better (significantly better in average and OBP) and as I said before he plays the field which Ortiz does not.

The NL is alittle less clear cut. Jones has some impressive counting stat totals but his OBP is rather mediocre at .354. Lee however has an impressive .425 OBP and an eye-popping .673 SLG. Yes, the Cubs have been pretty bad this year and the Braves are leading their division, but imagine how bad the Cubs would be without Lee.

Duck, I like a Jeter a lot and hes a great player but he isn't the MVP. Hes not even close to deserving the MVP and this is coming from a huge Jeter fan. By the way, you make a lot of typos...

NL- A. Jones
AL- ARod

The Braves would not be where they are without Jones' bat. he and Chipper are pretty much their offense. Andruw wasn't hitting as well when Chipper wasn't in the lineup, and the Braves were floundering without Chipper as well.

I'm thinking if Chipper had been in the line up all season, he could have a shot too.
