Heisman

November 09, 2005 at 07:59AM View BBCode

Who get's your vote?

Reggie is absolutely electric, I haven't heard a good argument against him (not getting enough touches is not a good argument)

Yes, Vince Young is most valuable, but the Heisman is most OUTSTANDING

What are your thoughts?

Terrell Owens? Let's give him another reason to run his mouth.

Bush will win it, but I think Young deserves it..

I would list why I think so, but I'm sure everyone has heard the arguments for all sides about a dozen times by now..

Vince Young is the man, but of course I am biased ;)

Can't wait to see Texas and USC square off in the Rose Bowl (knock on wood)

Sometimes I think they should vote on the Heisman after bowl season....but then again, no league takes postseason into account

ESPN, SI and Sporting News all have Vince as the frontrunner. I think Vince deserves it so far and USC will split votes among Bush and Leinart.

Because outside of the Notre Dame game, Bush's "electrifying" performance has been more hype than substance.

We'll find out who should have won the Heisman on January 4th, almost a month after its given out. I do think that Bush will end up winning, because I expect Texas to come very close to losing to Kansas this weekend, and for Young to put up some pretty crappy stats. Their defense is 6th in the nation or something like that, but if he does do shitty and they do come close to losing everyone will just look at it as "he played that shitty against freaking Kansas? Bush is obviously better".

I've been watching him roll over Pac-10 schools out West. Granted, they were the schools in Oregon and Washington, but no matter--he's really fucking good. I don't know that I'd give him the Heisman Trophy, but he is in no way an overrated player.

I wasn't trying to say he's overrated, simply that this bandwagon has developed around his performance that relies a lot on the one game that everyone watched. He's a fine player and a worthy Heisman finalist, but the idea that he has somehow separated himself from Leinart and Young is more based on perception than reality, since his highlights happen to look phenomenal and that's all that many people see. The fact that he doesn't get that many carries DOES matter, because when you have LenDale White spelling you it makes it that much easier for you to break off a big run.

As far as I'm concerned, Vince Young is the best player in college football this year. And I don't want to hear semantic arguments about the meaning of "best" and "most valuable" or any of that other crap. Best has to do not just with how well you perform (and how you look doing it) but also in what you bring to the table to help your team win, week in and week out. Young does a bit of everything, has single-handedly won games this year, and deserves to be rewarded (right now) as the best player in the game this year.

Have you sat down and watched a full USC game this year? Seeing him play leaves no question he's the best player in the country, he's a threat to go for 6 every play.

I have a feeling Texas will be upset against A&M. Kyle Field is a really tough place to play....it'll rattle Young and he'll revert back to that goofy sidearm throw and will toss like 3 picks.

Actually, I'd never even heard of him until your post.

Lots of people just form their opinions based on boxscores

And by the way, was that a yes or a no?

Kansas beat Nebraska for the first time in 36 years last week, so we *might* be able to get within a TD of Texas on Saturday. We will probably get blown out though, like usual.

But it's okay, because college basketball season is about to start and although we aren't going to be that good this year (no preseason top 25) it will still be better than the football team.

As improved as Kansas is, and as much as I'd like for them to win, I think it's more likely that Mangino runs onto the field and eats Vince Young

Last year Texas came extremely close to losing to Kansas, they needed a run by Young on 4th and 17 to keep them in the game. Hopefully they don't need those kind of heroics again. I don't think they'll lose, but Kansas has a very good linebacker in Nick Reid (his first name may not be Nick..but I'm not going to look it up) and a great two way player in Charles Gordon. Last year's game was in Lawrence (sp?) and this one is in Austin, so hopefully that helps. I really think the 34 1/2 point line is crazy, but I said the same thing about the Tech line.

To say Kyle Field will rattle Young seems kind of silly. He played a significantly better team in what was at the very least an equally hostile environment when they beat Ohio State earlier this year. He also had the huge game against Michigan at the Rose Bowl and the huge comebacks against Oklahoma State and last years comeback against Kansas.

I think its hilarious that I think Kansas has a better chance versus Texas at Austin than I think A&M has at College Station. I guess that shows how far the Aggies have fallen this year. Or how stupid I am. Probably some kind of combination of the two.

I don't know if others on the West Coast would like to confirm, but Reggie Bush is having [url=http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/ncaa/boxscores/2005/11/19/33222_boxscore.html]an obscene game[/url] against Fresno St. tonight.

Now THAT is the sort of game that everyone has been assuming Reggie Bush has been putting up every single week, and it may legitimately move him in front of Vince Young for the Heisman.
kujayhawks15

15 yards a carry isn't bad. This game alone might move him ahead of Vince Young, but I still think that VY deserves it.
