Best pitcher in MLB now

Who is the best pitcher in MLB right now

If you had to pick who you wanted to pitch the most important game for your team this year, who would you choose, please back up your answer in some way.

Triple Crown winner last year, that says it all, and this year a Bob Gibson type year, he does it all strike outs, low ERA low WHIP, he is without a doubt in my mind the best pitcher.

A surprise pick. Tell me, is this Jake Peavy before or after wiping himself?

You are really a little obsessed about this. If you like him, fine. But why does it upset you that others have their own favorites?

I love Felix. I mean, I have a massive mancrush on the guy. He is far from the best pitcher in MLB. There's a difference between being a fan and being delusional.

Peavy is good, but Santana is better. It's hardly an insult to call him the 2nd-best pitcher of his era.

U are all wrong just watch Johan has a bad year and we all see the dominance of the Jake

I don't think you really wanted a vote. You were just hoping everyone agreed with you. He has to be the best, I mean he IS your avatar, right??

Now this is just juvanile stupidity. Having more than one great pitcher at a time isnt a bad thing. Does the greatness of Randy Johnson diminish Roger Clemens. Of course not. Did Tom Seaver diminish Steve Carlton. No. Great pitchers are good for the game.

Now, if I were building a team today for the future and could pick anyone I would likely start with Peavy but be honest here because only an idiot doesn't realize that Santana is a great pitcher who has a much better track record than Peavy. Peavy has managed to win more than 15 games once in his career. He's received votes for the CY award (not winning-just any votes) just one season and in the biggest game of his career he came up very small.

I like Peavy and expect great things from him but get a grip kid.

This is getting creepy now. The only thing left is for you to scream at us and tell us to put the lotion on our skin.

Five bucks says Peavy ends up floating in a river with a moth in his throat...

I just don't understand how can you look at the year Peavy had last year and the year Santana had and say at this point Santana is better. Of course Santana has better career stats to this point, but that will be turned around in a year or so.

Maybe I am taking this too far, but if I ask who is going to have a better year this year I am taking Peavy no doubt, especially since Santana is passed his prime and Peavy will be entering his prime soon.

Just look now it may be early but...
Johan 3.02 ERA 1-2 18 Ks
Jake 1.64 ERA 3-0 16 Ks

Based on one year Randy Jones was better than Steve Carlton or Tom Seaver
Based on one year Bob Welch was better than Roger Clemens or Jack Morris

Basing your statments on one season is foolish.

Moreover, you're also neglecting the following.

1). Peavy has won more than 15 games in a season a total of once in his carerer.
2). Peavy pitches in possibly the best pitchers park in the history of the game
Last season the park effect of Petco was an almost unheard of 88.
3). Peavy is a very good pitcher and acknowleging that in no way minimizes Santana. The reverse is also true. Santana is a very good pitcher and saying so doesn't harm Peavy one bit. Only those with tremendous insecurities have to build their favorites up by demeaning others. If you want to have an adult conversation about things then bring something to the table.

because he so obviously is.

i thought i covered this in the other thread. peavy is a great pitcher. no one disputes that. but santana is clearly better and frankly, if given a chance i might rank beckett ahead of peavy as well.

your unwavering support of your hero is impressive and praiseworthy. but you're taking this into the realm of obsession and delusion, which isn't healthy for anyone, especially you.

Since when is 29 years old "passed [sic] his prime"? If anything, Santana is just starting to enter his prime.

you know how unreliable these latin birth certificates can be benne. probably the padres are about to expose the 29 year-old johann santana as a 42 year-old named jose alvarez. peaves probably just has the inside dope from his position in the padres p.r. department.

A prime of someone athletically if they train at a constant rate is 26-28 passed that is passed their prime, but it may not be evident. However Jake Peavy's prime is right now so I think right now at this point he is better, this will be proved by him having a much better season this year.

He's a kid -- I'm guessing he's around Peyton's age (Peyton, of course, existing as a 15-year-old in suspended animation, never aging, never maturing).

Of course, if this guy somehow is a grown man ... he probably shouldn't have done so many drugs in high school.

I'm 18 but aren't the majority of us all under 20 anyways? I'm still a knowledgeable baseball fan, and if Jake Peavy has a better year this year that would pretty much prove my point right?

I know for a fact that all but two of the people who have replied to this thread are 20 or older, and will guess those two are as well.

Your infatuation with Jake Peavy, whether or not he's the best pitcher in baseball, is kind of icky.

i'm assuming that i'm one of the other two, and depressingly i'm certainly closer to 40 than 20.

i guess that depends. are you prepared to accept that the best pitcher in mlb RIGHT NOW is either brian bannister and his 3-0 record and 0.86 ERA or Cliff Lee and his 2-0 record and 0.61 ERA? because that's essentially what you're saying by the argument you're making.

I would guess I am one of the 2 also. Same boat, I am closer to 40 than 20
