Greatest hitter(s) ever...revisted

November 27, 2008 at 03:28PM View BBCode

[color=Black]I think I did one like this last yr...[/color]

Ok, here we go. To make this fair, lets pick at least 5.
1.Hornsby
2.Cobb
3.Williams
4.Bonds (I think I can defend this one).
5.Gehrig
6. Ruth
7. Aaron
8. A-rod
9.Pujols (I just like his consistency w/power and average)
10. Joe Jackson

That is my list...everyone differs. Joe D will always land on someone's list, trust me. I'm also sure that I will be challenged for this one too.

you may well be able to defend putting bonds in 4th, but good luck defending ruth in 6th.

Ok, no Mattingly? (just kidding) and Pujols is way better than Hornsby

Look at Hornsby at the point of his career that Albert's in right now. 2 Mvp 5 Silver Sluggers a Gold glove, Career .334 Hitter with 319 career homeruns plus he's played lless than of his career half of his career He's .334/.423/.620 In 10 years I'm expecting .339/.432/.623 and 675 career home runs with 12 silver slugger and 15-16 all star appearences. Plus, you forgot vladmir guerrero.[Edited on 11-27-2008 by DavidMannyAlbert]:cool2:

The real travesty is that Derek Jeter is nowhere to be found.

I'll say it again Ok, no Mattingly? (just kidding) and Pujols is way better than Hornsby

Hornsby played in an extremely hitter-friendly era.

im just going to throw this out there. if we are talking about hitting... gold glove doesnt really matter. just sayin'

I was right. Albert, you make a fine case for Vlad, but he doesn't crack my top ten, just like i'm sure Shoeless Joe wouldn't make yours if you put up your best top ten. Much respect to Vlad, he is in my top 20. As for Pujols, his career isn't over yet. I'm just allowing time to take course and I'll give it less than ten...say five that I can actually move him towards the top five on this list however.

The best part about your list is, had you adhered to this limit, you would have left Babe Ruth off completely. The second-best part is that Willie Mays is nowhere to be seen.

Mays should be nowhere to be seen. best "hitter" not best position player. Mays was a great hitter, but the reason he is one of the 5 best players ever is because he was such an amazing fielder on top of that.

the answer is

1) Bonds
2) Ruth
3) Williams

and then a HUGE drop off.

er... Im counting running skill along with hitting i suppose. aka "offensive skill". if i didnt, ruth may be ahead of bonds.

Willie Mays is one of the ten best hitters of all-time. Also, you are an insufferable twit.

Yes, yes I would. He'd be on the low end, though. I like to think of him as the Ball St. of greatest hitters.

Al Kaline, not so much. Sure, he was a solid hitter in a time where it was hard to find a solid hitter, but I'd take Yaz from that particular era.

My tops...

1) Williams
2) DiMaggio
3) Cobb
4) Ruth
5) Foxx
6) Aaron
7) Hornsby
8) Mays
9) Gehrig
10) As much as I hate to say it, Alex censored Rodriguez.

I went with anyone who is already worthy of the Hall of Fame if they were to be voted on today.
