top ten PFHOF snubs

March 14, 2010 at 04:43PM View BBCode

Just watched NFL Network's top 10 guys who ain't in the HOF:

10. Ken Anderson
9. Steve Tasker
8 Alex Karras
7. Ricky Waters
6. Ken Stabler
5. Andre Reed
4. Jim Marshall
3. Shannon Sharpe
2. Cris Carter
1. Jerry Kramer

The only guy on the list I think needs to get in is Stabler, because I think Carter will get in eventually. I think Stabler was better than Griese. I could be convinced about Reed and Sharpe.

If Kramer isn't in already, I don't see any way they're ever going to put him in, and there's 11 guys from the Pack (including Lombardi) already in.

Karras ain't gettin'g in acus of the gambling thing.

Marshall wasn't a great player, and I don't know why he's even on the list. Durability? Sure. That ain't enough. If you have 3 HOF'ers on your D-line, you should have at least one championship, acus, you know, d-fense wins those things. Putting him in would be like putting Jethro Pugh or John Dutton in. Charles Haley had much more impact, IMO.

I like Tasker as much as anybody, but really? HOF?

Ricky Waters? For who? for what? It's sad that he's remembered more for that and his mouth, he was a terrific player.

Ken Anderson? meh, he was good, but I can't remember ever saying to myself, "wow, what a great QB." I saw him play against the Oilers twice every season.

Hash away...

Cortez Kennedy.

(It's also dumbfounding you need any convincing about Shannon Sharpe.)

I think Sharpe and Carter will go in, it took Art Monk a long time to get in so maybe the voters just have a thing about receivers . Reed has the most catches of anybody eligible who isn't in and he was a stud, I'm fine either way with him.

Steve Tasker ? Really ? Steve Tasker's on the list and not Irving Fryar or Henry Ellard ? I guess the grit factor is huge .

Stabler was the right guy for the team but his numbers aren't better than guys like Roman Gabriel or John Brodie, I'm OK with "The Snake" getting in but I'd rather see John Hadl.

Watters has a good case, I guess really except for Tasker they all do .

My obligatory homer cry,
For ol' Ray Guy.

No it isn't a haiku.

It's merely a homer pick, as can be expected from anyone who went to Southern Miss and is sick of hearing that other guy's name already.

Kennedy is a lock, the "non sexy stat" guys always take a little while.

Kennedy has only been on 2 ballots so I'd say 2011 maybe 2012 and he's in

I didn't see him play enough to simply say he deserves to be in. His brother was better, but had the injury thing.

Receiver stats in this era are much like power stats in the roids era in baseball. They are so different when you compare them historically, you have to have some context. I take it you're saying Sharpe was the best TE of his generation and is a no-brainer? If so, why isn't he in? Will he get in soon?

I have no doubt 'Tez will get in, but he retired after the 2000 season. He should be in already.

It's the sacks, or lack thereof . That's why Randle's in and Kennedy isn't (yet) .

2010 was Sharpe's 1st year of eligibility, it's not like he's been standing around with his face pressed against the glass forever, and his numbers are impeccable . He's in.

Carter's a lock as well, I'm a little surprised he didn't go in with the 2010 group .

And the playing in Seattle thing.

Shannon Sharpe is arguably the best receiving TE of all-time. He's a no-brainer. I don't know why he's not in; maybe because the Pro Football Hall of Fame is presided over by a bunch of morons like Peter King?

Everyone needs to take a deep breath, Sharpe will get in but very few receivers are 1st ballot guys in the NFL (very few anything really), it's just the way it is.

I think Sharpe's probably among the top 5-6 tight ends in league history and as such is a lock.

The way the game changed has boosted his stats and in my mind he'd rank below Winslow or Gonzalez of the "modern" tight ends but I understand those who might rank him higher.

He's still a "no brainer".

Who's hyperventilating?

he's no Billy Truax.

sharpe wasn't even the best receiver in his own family. just say NO to people who look like horses!

Vince Lombardi was not elected on the first ballot, according to that show I referenced.

You're still trying to compare a TE to a WR. That's not a good comparison. Sharpe clearly is HOF worthy. He's one of the top 5 TEs of all time (ditka, winslow, gonzalez and gates are the other 4 on my list-all are going to be in)

it was a joke, bryan (the truax reference shoulda been a clue).

sharpe was a key offensive player on three SB winners.

had sterling not had that injury, I think he'd be a HOF'er.

I'm not sure the 2000 Ravens even had an offense.
