for j.aa happ and a couple of mid prospects. which brings to mind two things. are they now the favourites in the NL? and is this and admission that they miscalculated in trading away cliff lee?July 29, 2010 at 08:12PM View BBCode
I think that Roy Halladay has more than replaced Cliff Lee ... so, no, not an admission of messing that up, I don't think. I'm pretty sure that they could not have kept Lee and still landed Halladay.July 29, 2010 at 08:16PM View BBCode
It has to be right? They said they wanted to trade Lee to build their farm system, which is still bad. If they keep Lee, they have Halladay, Lee, Hamels, and get to keep Happ. I thought it was a stupid move to begin with, Lee has been arguably the best pitcher in the game for the past 2-3 years. They should still be very good, but until they get past the Braves, I'm picking the Braves for the NL.July 29, 2010 at 08:17PM View formatted

They could have kept Lee, but maybe not after this year. But if you have to have less of a minor league system to get back to the world series for the 3rd straight year, wouldn't you do it?July 29, 2010 at 08:23PM View BBCode
I think they miscalculated in trading Lee but they really couldn't have known that Blanton was going to tank so badly .July 29, 2010 at 08:24PM View BBCode

The Giants lead the NL in home runs this month, I believe. Andres Torres has been masquerading as a leadoff hitter to everyone's delight. Giant fans are just about giddy when you speak with them. They did blow a 9-2 lead to the Marlins in the 7th yesterday, though. censored happens, I guess.July 30, 2010 at 02:15AM View BBCode
The issue with Lee is that Ownership told Amaro that he had to keep payroll at a certain level. Had they known early enough they would have simply not offered arbitration to Blanton and kept Lee. When the Halladay deal was coming along Amaro knew he'd have to trade one of his pitchers. Tried to give Blanton away and couldn't so had to give Lee instead.Pages: 1
