the phillies signed cliff lee. halladay-lee-oswalt-hamels. do they even bother with a 5th starter?December 14, 2010 at 01:47PM View BBCode
I woke up at 3 and heard the news and was fairly giddy the next few hours.December 14, 2010 at 02:02PM View BBCode

they proably add a hitter. maybe beltre? or a trade, more likely. phillies are good at trading for stuff.December 14, 2010 at 04:33PM View BBCode
It's a rare deal, he gets $2 million more per season, if the reports of the Yankees offer are true, but leaves some overall money on the table .December 14, 2010 at 04:38PM View BBCode
I also love the way the media are falling all over themselves to declare Lee as some altruistic folk hero for taking this deal.December 14, 2010 at 06:53PM View BBCode
you had your fun already, with the big Yankee Press Conference last week. i will summarize:December 14, 2010 at 08:04PM View BBCode

i think jeter wanted a lot of money, because he looked at AJ Burnette and said, wow, if that thing is getting paid, then i really need to get paid.December 16, 2010 at 04:34PM View BBCode
I'm thrilled that he didn't go to NY, but he didn't take less money.December 16, 2010 at 05:23PM View BBCode
unless i've missed the new math, $120 million is less than $150 million.December 16, 2010 at 06:38PM View BBCode
Less guaranteed total dollars, yes, but more per year. If he stays productive, reaches the vesting options, and makes something like $10 million/year in his next deal, he'll make more.December 16, 2010 at 07:06PM View BBCode
the vesting options give him some more, yes, but not $150 million. which would mean he'll have taken less money. and assumed more risk in the bargain, since there's no knowing right now what his health/effectiveness will be like after his philly contract is up.December 16, 2010 at 07:20PM View BBCode
Well actually I'm not sure anyone really knows definitively what the New York and Texas offers were . What we do know is that he'll make at least $132.5 million for 6 years in Philadelphia and $147.5 for those same 6 years if he pitches 200 innings in 2015 or 400 combined in 2014-15 (source:[url=http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/phillies/111984199.html?page=1&c=y]Philly.com[/url])Pages: 1 2
