Signs with the Angels for 10 years. Signing a guy who is 32 for 10 years? I guess they figure Bud Man is going to keep the DH awhile longer.

the DH isn't going anywhere. except to the NL, god willing.

(10 years for a 32 year old is nuts. no matter who he is.)

Its all about risk analysis. Is he going to play at his past skill level for 6 or 7 more years, and are those years worth him not being great, but still making a TON of money for the other 3 or 4 years. Obviously LA thinks its worth it. As a rangers fan, i am scared of LA with what they are doing with they guys they are picking up.

They also signed CJ Wilson for 5 years at a reported $77.5 million .

That's quite the rotation they have now with Wilson, Santana, Haren and Weaver .

They are probably going to try and dump Vernon Wells to free up some salary. A lot of experts say they will trade Ervin Santana, but I would keep the rotation. Thats one hell of a rotation. Probably have to package Trumbo with Wells to get somebody to take Wells but somebody is going to be an odd man out.

Please. Forget salary. They should dump Vernon Wells to dump Vernon Wells. What I would like to know is where do they put Trumbo, if not another team?

So now what do the Cards do? Put Berkman at 1B and Allen Craig in RF?

Wasn't A-Rod 32 when he got extended?

I believe that was always the contingency plan if Pujols left.

Craig is out 4-6 months with a knee injury.

ah. for some reason, i have seen way more Angels spring training games than is good for anyone. and if they should dump anybody, it is crater faced bobby abreu. because he is freaking done.

I thought Bobby jumpped the shark years ago, but I was wrong. I just looked him up on baseball-ref. He has been a quietly productive player, up till last season ofcourse...

they put up with him last season. he is like nick johnson, which is to say, all he could do really is draw a walk and hit singles and a some doubles . he can probably still outdo, i don't know. chone figgins. but wow. that is no recommendation. i do not believe the Pirates would take him at this point.

the pirates will take anyone, so long as they do not have to pay them.

They're paying "Left Eye" Burnett aren't they? Probably over paying, the only way to get a FA to come to Pittsburgh.

it wasn't a free agent. the yankees are paying a lot of the salary.

I'm just glad he's gone.

And yes. We got 2 mid level prospects in return for AJ and cash.

Bobby A has always been overrated. He's one of those guys who puts up stats and makes people believe that he's good but he does all those little things that mark him as a loser.

1. He doesn't play (or at least didn't) against tough lefties. My everlasting memory of him will be sitting on the bench resting because Randy Johnson was pitching. It was opening day.

2. He's a Dave Magadan type of hitter. One who would prefer to draw a walk with a runner on third than hit a ground ball to get him home if it results in an out.

he singlehandedly got chone figgins all that money by convincing him not to swing at the ball when he was with the angels bryan. chone drew all them walks, and then seattle gave him all that coin, because their GM read Moneyball five years after everyone else, and said, "hey obp!!!!" so Bobby Abreu does have that going for him. he socked it to the Seattle Mariners, and good.

I'm no huge fan of Abreu but:

1) he's played over 150 games a year every year except 2011, so either there aren't many tough lefties out there or you aren't really giving him credit.

2) Abreu's career OPS is .878, and his OPS+ is 129, yes some of that ios due to his crazy OBP but his slugging percentage is still .485. Magadan is .767 and .377 so I think that comparison is, well, not very accurate.

As for the "rather walk than hit a ground ball" he's had 8 seasons of 100 RBI or more, which I doubt he got by walking.

Philly fans despise their own players with a passion most fans reserve for the opposition.

yes, i wasn't talking about past performance. i was watching the spring training games. abreu is finished, done.

See Rogue, you're wrong. We don't despise our own players, we despise players who don't put out the effort. Taking off opening day to rest because Randy Johnson was on the mound is an example. You're the same type of soundbite person who insisted that Rich Kotite was a good coach in Philly until he went to the Jets and stunk there as well. (not that I'm an Eagles fan except in Shep's mind-just an example of the mindless thought process people go through about Philly).

You people booed Santa Claus for Pete's sake. Veteran's Stadium had a jail in it! Philly fans are miscreants. And since I know you're a Steeler fan, I count you an exception.:)

This is typical lazy ass reporting. Just rehash the half truths and assume you know what happened. Tell me foli. What do you know about the incident in question? (before you look it up that is?) Do you know any specifics or are you just being a good Skip Bayless clone and not bothering with facts when a 2 second sound bite will do?
