I've heard Bagwell might be retiring after this season due to his arthritic shoulder....anyone else hear this?October 13, 2005 at 12:05PM View BBCode
I hope so, I've been a fan for a while. He plays the game the right way and is a good example for the younger players, as opposed to the majority of players in baseball, brain-locked and ignorant of the fans...October 13, 2005 at 02:00PM View BBCode
One thing to remember. The strike earned Bagwell the MVP award. He had broken his hand just before the strike happened and would have missed at least a month, no doubt knocking him out of the MVP race, probably allowing Matt Williams to lose all his hair but win the race.October 13, 2005 at 04:41PM View BBCode
Bagwell should be in. Maybe not on the first try, but very soon after. Here's a link to his #'s. There isn't much he hasn't accomplished. Even has a gold glove.October 13, 2005 at 05:00PM View BBCode
If a guy is a Hall of Famer, he's a Hall of Famer. If he's not, he's not. What's this "first try, second try" crap? I'll never understand that. There's no distinction in the Hall for what ballot you got in on, and I will never for the life of me figure out how a guy can become more worthy for the Hall as we get further from his active playing career.October 13, 2005 at 05:06PM View BBCode
Then why have a player on the ballot more than once if he's not elected? if he's not in on the first try, he's screwed? How about the Veterens Committee? Get rid of that too?October 13, 2005 at 05:09PM View BBCode
In practice, clearly there are guys who are going to take longer, and worthy candidates who will slip through the cracks and have to go to the VC. In theory, there is no difference between a 1st ballot Hall of Famer and a 2nd ballot Hall of Famer, and when you're discussing someone's merit for the Hall of Fame outside of actually having to vote, there's no reason to make a distinction.October 13, 2005 at 05:10PM View BBCode
After looking at those stats I would say he deserves in. He had a very impressive year in 1994.October 13, 2005 at 06:43PM View formatted

Bagwell is my favorite player, and Ive followed his career for a while. He's got very good numbers, and there are a lot of players in the hall of fame with worse stats then he has. And, like Syco said, he's a great person, and a great role-model for the younger players.October 15, 2005 at 02:55AM View BBCode

See Jeter. This is why I like you. This is a quality observation.October 15, 2005 at 05:54AM View BBCode
Bagwell looks like he is getting ready to take a dump when he is batting. As for him being a role model, wasn't his name whispered some with the steroid accusations.October 16, 2005 at 12:43AM View BBCode

I think we've had this argument before. If someone has bad numbers, and the people make a mistake and let him in, that doesn't mean we should let everyone in with numbers as good as better as that person. Now, I think Bagwell deserves in anyway, but that is not one of the reasons.

I don't mean to say he deserves to get because they are players worse then him, we all know a lot of bad players have gotten in. But I am saying he has numbers worthy of the hall of fame. Plus he is the only firstbasemen ever to have a 30/30 season (just an interesting fact I thought Id share). Its hard to argue that Bagwell doesnt belong in the hall.
