Game Log on Player Cards
April 09, 2007 at 05:26PM View BBCode
I added this minor change in today. I was doing something with boxscore stuff the other day and realized how easy a change this would be.
If you are on a player card, you can now see that player's stats from the last 10 games by clicking the link that says Game Log.
After you click that, you will get another link in case you want to see all that player's games for the current season.
We keep only current season information at this granular level for players, so unfortunately we can't guarantee that anything beyond the current season will be available. Although you may get lucky and be able to see beyond the current season in some cases (this may come up for players who haven't played in the current season).

so we can track hitting streaks and consecutive shutout innings, etc. ?
Should we come up with a page that would display things like this? Could be a nice thing to look at.

I would probably do hitting streaks a bit differently, since you'd probably want to keep this info beyond the current season and display it a bit differently.
I don't think you could use the current data set to get consecutive scoreless innings - you wouldn't know which innings he gave up the run. Not that you couldn't change this, but its not a 45 minute project.

This is absolutely fantastic, Tyson, great job! The improvements you've been adding lately to beta are just great.

Thanks!
I know we'll have some grumblers that say "This stuff is nice, but why didn't you work on XYZ?" I'm hoping XYZ is "increased defensive importance" for enough people that they are happy. Barring something else coming up, I am going to start putting some code in place there tomorrow in that area. I'd like to get that ironed out in the next 2 weeks so we have a few weeks to test before going live.

Would it be possible to have a "DNP" for games a player did not play in and thus show a true game log rather than an account of those games a player played in.
Also I just noticed that for bench jockeys the Game Log tracks back multiple seasons.

tworoosters - it might be tricky to do that with the way the database is setup. By tricky, I mean a messy query that makes the page (and perhaps the rest of the site) really slow. I'll leave it for now, but perhaps we'll revisit this in the future.
In most leagues, you won't see what you're seeing in beta. See my above comment about deleting data:

On the main site, you're not going to see this as often because we clean out old boxscores every other month.
