With Florida having beaten then #1 Alabama and then #1 Oklahoma in consecutive games, I think I'd have a problem with anyone else being ranked #1 right now. But I do understand the sentiment.

Well you're a Florida fan and I don't see an argument about why they shouldn't be the National Champ however I also don't see an argument about why one of the other three shouldn't either.

Before the NC game was even played, it was very easy to argue that any of the top 5 (or even 6) teams could have been there instead.
At this point I don't think you can argue that Florida deserves to be ranked first, but any of the top 6 could have won a NC game against any of the others this season. It just happened that Florida and Oklahoma were annointed as the ones given the chance to, and that is what is wrong with the system.

Granted, they got their clock cleaned by Oklahoma, but they also beat BYU and Boise St., and gave Utah a run for their money, so they're not total chumps. (Plus, there's something to be said for willing to play OU at Norman)
I'd rather not rehash the Texas debate, but I think they and USC are pretty much a toss-up, and would've made a much more entertaining Rose Bowl matchup than PSU.

I'm also surprised that TCU is getting that much love (from you and the AP voters). I have a hard time believing they would beat Alabama, Penn State or Georgia.

I have a big issue with Texas even being considered.
They didn't win their conference. We've been through this before, but for me, winning your conference is a prerequisite to winning the nation.

The only reason that argument is acceptable is if you buy into the notion that there actually is a national championship game. If we accept the fact that the BCS is right and that 1v2 according to a complicated formula is a "National Championship Game" then you are correct. On the other hand if we don't accept that particular premise then arguments could be made for the other teams, including Texas.

That is the entire premise around which college football is based. You may not like it, you may wish the system was different, but as long as that's the system that is in place, then that is the result we have. Making arguments for other teams to be "national champions" might be fun, but so is masturbating, and we don't talk about that in polite company.

So? They don't recognize anyone, that's their shtick. That's always been their shtick. I'm not really sure why it's relevant. I realize that people are still fighting against the BCS and everything, because people like to fight silly, losing battles. The BCS champion is, very simply, the champion. Everything else is just noise.

now, when the BCS thing crowned USC as the "champion" it was the awesome. now that it didn't, we "have problems," or we point out the "winner of the BCS isn't recognized...etc."
if you like that thing sometime, then you just have to like it all the time. the style points system on which it is based (after you get past the records, you get into all this comparing scedules and yardage and winning on the road and losing at home and all junk, right?) was supposed to be objectively better than the polls of old, was it not?

really. the whole BCS thing came out because occasionally the AP and the UPI recognized a different "national champion." this happened so seldom, really, that i never could figure out why anyone really cared.now, when the BCS thing crowned USC as the "champion" it was the awesome. now that it didn't, we "have problems," or we point out the "winner of the BCS isn't recognized...etc."

Well, you weren't around here the last time USC won a BCS title game, so the odds of finding any BCS praise out of you are slim. But I doubt you were doing any hand-wringing when the Trojans knocked out the Sooners in that Orange Bowl a few years back.

i think the BCS is stupid. but in America, it isn't enough that some teams win, have great seasons, and some folks vote and express a collective opinion about who the best team is. we have to crown a "champion" and identify a loser, you can't do that without a "championship game."as far as whether you think the BCS is awesome or not, that isn't the point. when the BCS thing put USC into the "championship game" and they won, you embraced that result. now, we have to embrace the result of this season. it is the same thing.

"Gators Champion!!!!!!"?
seem like a heap of trouble, when they could just poll the coaches.
