look, they only lost 4 games. And they werent trying against NO. And they only lost to IND by 1 point, so that basically doesnt even count. and the jets and broncos games were so long ago that I dont count them either. And werent you paying attention when they ran up the score against TEN to show their dominance? 59 points. Have the colts scored 59? no. Not even close. 49, what little panzyboys. And the Saints are in the NFC. Thats not even a real division. I didnt even know they had football teams. Look, if you dont have a quarterback whose name is either tom brady, or peyton manning, your team sucks. And Peyton Manning sucks too, so suck on that colts. Maybe you have the better record but you have the worse quarterback.December 03, 2009 at 05:46PM View BBCode

Yes, because they beat the team that was, prior to that, the best team in the NFL.December 04, 2009 at 06:01PM View BBCode

I don't believe I said the Patriots were the best team in the NFL, if I did, sorry, but if not, make sure you know what your saying before you say it, I said, I believe the Patriots are a better team then the Colts THIS YEAR but I do not believe I once said they were the best team in the NFL this year, once again, just in case, if I did, I apologize. The Saints proved they were the best in the NFL by beating one of the better teams, not only beating them but basically dominating them, they didn't get breaks with bad spots and fumbles, they flat out just whooped ass for basically the whole game, schedule wise, the Patriots were probably their toughest opponent so far, and they dominated like they have, but them or the colts will not go undefeated.December 05, 2009 at 09:25PM View BBCode

along with the two undefeated teams the pats have lost to teams with records of 6-6 and 7-4. the only teams new england has beaten with winning records are both (balt and atlanta) 6-5. the colts have defeated two 7-4 teams (pats and cards) and two more (balt and jax) who are 6-5 and the 5-6 texans twice (who are 5-4 against everyone outside indy). so in addition to beating the patriots head to head (which for everyone outside new england is usually the first tie breaker), they have also beaten more quality teams than have the pats. there is no way anyone not operating on blind hope alone could reasonably conclude that the colts are not, as of this moment, the 'better' team of the two.December 05, 2009 at 09:42PM View BBCode

A lot always try for some reason to say record means your the best team, Vikings have a loss but I'd easily put them over the Colts, throughout the year some teams have the best team but not the best record, the Cardinals technically had the best team in the NFC last season, a lot plays into your record, performance obviously but if your missing key players throughout the season, bad calls from officials, it happens, the best team is the team standing at the end, but I'm sure this will be picked apart also because no one can seem to understand I am not sitting here saying the Patriots are the best team, and continue to treat me as if I'm one of those ridiculous fans on sport message boards

The Saints really impressed me on Monday night. I did not think they would dominate as they did. Of course this is coming from a Patriots fan, but I felt the Patriots would probably lose because of the home field but that it would be very competitive.
The defense got exposed (to state the obvious). It may not be quite as bad as it looked in that game (had some flat out blown coverages, etc that could get corrected), but I think it's clear that it is not championship caliber at this point. You have to realize that basically the entire defense from the championship years is gone. McGinest, Seymour, Vrabel, Bruschi, Seau, Law, Samuel, Harrison -- all gone. The haters could be right and it could be the end of an era. Or the young defense could just need time to mature. We won't know the answer to that for sure until after next season I would say.
The offense is still one of the best, but I think either Moss is showing his age or he is reverting back to his lazy days. He seems to be jogging around out there quite a bit and getting very frustrated when the ball happens to not be thrown his way. He also seems to feast on bad defenses and disappear against good ones.
It's surprising when the offense gets shut down because I think it still has great weapons. I think the defense just puts too much pressure on it--forces it to be pass happy, and is constantly creating momentum for the other team.
We have the Raiders' first round pick this year. I don't follow college, but I really hope there is a dominant pass rusher available because I think that's what the defense desperately needs.

You realize of course that this is why there are haters. Its because Patriot fans (and Red Sox fans as well) tend to believe that their teams are so great that anyone who doesn't always say that they're great is a hater.
The truth of the matter is that the Patriots this year are not that good. They still have a dynamic passing game with Brady Welker and Moss but the running game is pedestrian at best.
The Pats have some good wins (see Titans and Ravens) some lucky wins (Bills) losses to good teams (Saints and Colts) and losses to mid level teams (Jets and Broncos). In short they're fairly inconsistent and can play with the top teams but the same can be said of a dozen NFL teams this year. The argument that they're better than the colts is foolhardy, and one that would only be made by a die hard homer who isn't looking at things without bias. Could they have beaten the Colts, of course but they didn't. Are the Colts the best team in the NFL, probably not right now anyone would have to say that's the saints. There are probably 3-4 top teams in the NFL this year. Call them New Orleans, Minnesota and Indy. After that you've got about 9 teams that could beat anyone on any day but could also lose to a poor team on that same day. (Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, New England, San Diego, Dallas, Philadelphia, Giants, Green Bay). Any of these teams COULD go on a playoff run and if everything breaks right win it all but none is really better than any of the others. Throw these 9 into a basket and pull one out as the 4th best team in the NFL, you could make an argument for any of them but you could make it for all of them.
New England earlier in the decade was clearly one of the best all time teams with their 3 super bowl wins. They aren't that team any longer. They're good but no longer great.

I think the only team that's ever had sustained excellence that didn't become universally hated outside their fan base is the Steelers.December 06, 2009 at 07:53PM View BBCode

no, it's because you're a condescending blowhard.

there's a big difference between insulting someone and telling them the truth. you are condescending and you do blow hard, that's the truth, not an insult.
