I think it's the opposite. It made the BCS somewhat irrelevent. The AP is the gold standard.

Penn State, and the rest of the Big 10, sucks.

Bones, want to have an avatar bet on the Rose bowl?

I will answer this after the UCLA game. The message board jinx is too strong.

Congratulations on the ACC Championship and thoroughly deserved Orange Bowl berth, Craig.

It should have been Boise State.

(Actually, I'd rather see the Big East divested of their automatic bid.)

Alright Ryan and David. Figure out who's in on the bet.

2 weeks avatar works I assume.

I'm in.

If SC wins, you use an avatar of my choosing for 2 weeks, and if Penn State wins, then you get to pick mine for two weeks.

Deal?

God I hope UCLA beats USC. (Are you really going to play short a timeout, or did that get resolved?)

Apparently so. Neuhisel (sp?) also said that if USC is charged a time out, he would use one on the first play of the game to even it out.

I tuned in to see both teams with two timeouts left and 12:30 remaining in the first, so it appears that's what happened. In short, Neuheisel is an idiot.

Yeah, he called a timeout at 14:55 in the first quarter

Ryan, you're on.

Looks like almost everyone here was right in calling Alabama a soft #1.

You can't possibly believe this, can you? Only one team hoists the national championship trophy at the end of the year, and that is the team that wins the BCS championship.

Well, that was before the AP pulled out of the BCS. But still, censored the Trojans' half-assed "championship".

Totally believe it.

The only reason anyone takes the BCS seriously is because there is a shitload of network money associated with it.

The BCS only promised that the winner of its game would receive all the coaches' poll votes; it hasn't even done that.

The AP was around long before the BCS, and will be around long after.

No slow, the BCS pits the #1 and #2 team in the country. The winner is declared the champion. The end.

If there any doubts about Oklahoma deserving a title game spot, they certainly silenced those doubts tonight. Gators/Sooners is going to be an immensely entertaining game.

1. Florida
2. Oklahoma
3. Texas
4. USC
5. Alabama
6. Utah
7. Texas Tech
8. Boise St.
9. Penn St.
10. TCU

With the conference champions settled, and with Utah guaranteed an automatic berth, there's only three at-large bids left to dole out. I really, really hope Boise State gets one of them, but I have a feeling the committee is down on the WAC this year after Hawaii got pasted last year. My final projections:

Orange Bowl: Virginia Tech vs. Cincinnati
Rose Bowl: USC vs. Penn St.
Fiesta Bowl: Texas vs. Utah
Sugar Bowl: Alabama vs. Boise St. Ohio St. (this will happen, and I will be sad when it does.)
Championship Game: Florida vs. Oklahoma (yay for not having to watch a crappy Big 10 team for once)

Now is as good a time as any to start handicapping the Heisman race, so here's my predicted final standings:

Sam Bradford
Colt McCoy
Tim Tebow
Graham Harrell
Michael Crabtree

Boise State might get snubbed, but it won't be for that reason. I mean, that Fiesta Bowl against the Sooners wasn't that long ago.

the bcs pits the #1 and #2 teams in the country as determined by their computerized voting system together. the winner is declared the champion even if most people think there's a 3rd team that would best either of them. it's better than voting for a champion, absolutely. but it's still a stupid system. a true playoff system would be a much better solution.

...except that an 8-team playoff (which seems to be the model that's most often floated) would still produce plenty of snubs. Even leaving out the Big East and ACC conference champions, try and pick only eight teams out of the prospective BCS field.

(I have finally come around to the idea that a playoff is the best solution, but would still come with its own share of problems.)
