From MVP Canidate to hall of fame... Pujols fits that title

November 28, 2008 at 04:00PM View BBCode

We all know Pujols is one of the best hitters of the era but this isn't even 10 years into his career, In this thread the idea is to share your Ideas on how good Pujols will be in the next 10 years.

Here It goes,

Right now he is an 8 time all star 1 time gold glover 5 time silver slugger 2 MVP awards with .334/.423/.620

In 10 years I'm Guessing 5 MVP's 12 silver sluggers 3 gold gloves 15-16 time all star and .343/.427/.627
With 3 WS rings and no doubt a future hall of famer, for the lock 3,224 hits and 653 HR with 612 2B

What do you think

I'm not sold on Pujols until he brings peace to the Middle East.

he has only been the best player for the last 4 years, but of course, real, honest to god major league baseball players dont have any censored clue of this fact.

No Bart, that's not me...but thanks for the shout out. I think I did one of these before...didn't go so well. But to answer the question, not yet. Pujols while being one of the top two hitters of this era (A-rod being the 1st, Bonds is retired), still has only played 8 seasons. At one point in the 80's, folks were talking the same about Murphy. Not to say they are in the same class of hitters because they are not (Pujols doesn't strike out 100 times a season), but give it at least 2 more seasons. Forgoing a major injury, Pujols is on pace to break the HR record...yea I said it, bring on WB, but personally, I still need to see him a little bit more to make that decision.

Alex Rodriguez has been playing for five seasons longer. He has an excuse.

but i mean, best player since he was 23 years old generally means he was the best of his era. or has been up to this point.

he has a career 1.050 OPS with gold glove defense, and he is just coming into his prime. I mean, its hard to even call it a "breakout year", but if pujols had one, it was this past year.

Sure, but doing it from the opposite corner, let alone the entire opposite side... why the hell am i defending alex rodriguez... bally-hoo... whatever, No one seemed to notice that he had the most offensively driven season since a guy named mickey censored mantle smacked censored around in yankee stadium, including your mom.

Because Pujols is so much better at defense than A-Rod, they actually have similar defensive value despite rodriguez playing a harder position. not to mention, 3B is becoming the 4th power hitting spot.

A-Rod is great, but at this point in time in his career, id go ahead and say that Pujols is destined to be better, and part of that lies in A-Rod's transition from SS to 3B. not only did he start playing a less valuable defensive position, but he was better at SS defense than he is at 3B defense.

And that fact for you, happy, in his (A-Rod's) history, compared to Pujols, counts for absolutely nothing considering Pujols has never, save two innings of his illustrious career, played that position?

it matters from a value perspective. he transferred elite SS defense to mediocre 3B defense. mediocre 3B defense is similar in value to elite 1B defenese. if he were still an elite defensive SS, he would probably compare favorably to Pujols.
